Trigger job on a 10mm EAA SAO

Just got the Hunter.  Very nice.  Well put together package which is what I was expecting based on all the positive reviews.  Surprised they only ship with one mag but oh well. 

Now just need to set it up a little.  I'll be ordering a 20lb recoil spring.  The trigger is ok but I would like to lighten it and smooth it out a little.  Lots of info on this but just thought I would canvas the members here to see what they have done and what the result was - anything from a few simple tweaks on up to full trigger jobs.

I notice there are a ton of aftermarket trigger related products.  What are the essentials? 

I'm thinking of starting with a lighter (15lb?) hammer spring.  Will this require an extended firing pin?

  I'm a little different. I just leave all of mine factory stock just the way they shipped. My old Match eventually had a hair trigger after some use and you can polish the parts to get to that point faster. Honestly though, that trigger was a little frightening! You have a ton of choices including Henning, J&L Gunsmithing and the new hot name Patriot Defense for your parts.

My Elite Match came with a 4 lb trigger, but it broke like glass after about 1/16" creep free take-up and therefore felt much, much lighter.

Things I did:  I gave the whole trigger path a "fluff and buff".  Anywhere I could identify contact I polished with jewelers rouge on a felt wheel in my dremel.  I left the sear surfaces alone as they appeared pretty well buffed to begin with.

I adjusted the overtravel screw down to the point the trigger breaks with no discernable movement other than takeup.  I adjusted the take up all the way out, then backed it off until the trigger would reliably reset from disconnect.  As I mentioned, this left about 1/16".

I "think" it already has a reduced power mainspring.  But, if you want to go lower then get a hammer calibration pack, drop the weight until you get mis-fires and then step back up one.  I don't think I would mess with a longer firing pin.

 Assuming it's a 10mm I would go heavier on the hammer spring not lighter. You will benefit like you do with a heavier recoil spring,  but without the downside of the slide closing harder as the recoil spring does.
  And a SAO  trigger will not change due to heavier hammer spring as it deffiently does to a DA trigger.
  I also prefer the extreme SAO trigger over stock. A Henning trigger is another option.

In addition to polishing, does the Henning trigger require any other associated parts to lighten and smooth-out the pull?

If it was around the 4lb mark, I would not be too fussed, but it is mid 5s.

Other than shape I don't believe any of the different trigger options effect the pull weight. The Henning used to come with its own pin, but I don't believe they do anymore.
   For me, the reach, shape and angle of the extreme trigger makes a huge difference even though it doesn't lighten the pull weight.

I am currently waiting for some Henning parts to come in for my Hunter.
I did spend some time modifying the stock parts to see what I could do (with the intention of replacing them, anyway) and I got an amazing trigger out of it- the issue being that upon shaping the sear, sear leg and hammer hooks, one is potentially removing the very thin, hardened surface.
I managed a very light, clean break with a short reset and have run about 400 rounds of Sig ammo through it without issue.
I have a Henning Flat Trigger and Ultimate hammer/sear+ extended FP all coming in the mail tomorrow.
Planning to install it all by tomorrow night. The down side to the new sear is that it is lacking a FPB leg, so anyone planning to do this kind of upgrade is automatically out from certain competition for disabling a safety.. I don't shoot competitively, so I don't really mind.
I'll probably post in the smithing page once I get into it.

Similarly, I was told by a Tanfoglio smith that the next course of action (if the polish job didn't get me to the desired end point), would be an aftermarket sear and hammer.  Let me know how your project goes.  I was looking at the Xtreme hammer and sear combo but will check out the Henning as well.  However, add in a sear cage (if that is even necessary?) and this is not an inexpensive upgrade so hoping the polishing job is adequate.  Sound like my trigger is a little heavier than what is typical so I am hoping it will.

Mine started with a fairly heavy, crunchy trigger.
Polishing the internals and the sear/hammer surfaces really helped out the stock setup.
I had done the extra work to see what I could get out of it.
I was looking at the Xtreme parts pretty hard before deciding to go with Henning. I love the looks of the Xtreme hammers and stuff, but I found myself enticed by the "best trigger available for Tanfoglio" line on the Henning Group page.

I'm not entirely sure what a different sear cage would have to offer.. I see people get the Xtreme cage, but best I could tell from pictures, it's identical to the stock cage, just in the white.. So I don't know. Perhaps someone in the forum would know for certain.
Like I said, I'll post with first impressions when I get the parts in.

Me too!  Oh wait, there's that EAA Compact P 10mm that got accidentally modified to take a flat wound spring. I must have been drinking. But, that sucker is still sending rounds down range with no issues. Me likey.

Got the Henning parts installed.
Part of the kit for the hammer was an EGW hard sear- I already had one fitted to the gun from previous experimentation- to my amazement, it worked with the new hammer perfectly.. The downside being I paid for a part I don't need.
The trigger feels very nice, now. I was really close with the stock parts, but the tightness of the Henning trigger makes a very noticeable difference overall.

I'll do a full review and picture set in the smithing section this coming week.
