More 10mm goodness...

But is it? I'm really really not a fan of a rail on a 1911. Then they overwhelm you with that awesome 8 round capacity for $1800. I think you could get the Ruger 1911 and one of the new revolvers plus have ammo money left... and have nicer pieces!

For some. I like 10mm 1911's , but I'm not interested in the TRP,  but any new 10mm offering is goodness IMO.

I agree, more is good to a point.  They could have offered a commander sized 10mm w/ 4" barrel and generated some buzz. This offering isn't going to appeal to those of us who already have a few 10mm 1911's.

Intercooler

That's it! I can't see the sales being real good.

To be fair the only other companies making full size 10mm 1911's are Armscor/RIA, Colt, Coonan, Dan Wesson, Kimber, Nighthawk, Ruger, Sig, STI, Wilson and Republic forge....And all the semi-custom and custom shops.

This.  The only game in town right now for a 4" 1911 in 10mm is RIA.  This is an area where some folks would have probably ponied up.

Instead they jumped into an already crowded market with a "me too" offering.

I hope it sells well, but I won't be helping those sales.

A Commander size would have been good. DW will make a 1911 10mm Valor in a Commander size for $2,500.  Even if they price pointed the SA at $1,500 I think it would be a winner (without the rails)!

Always good to see new offerings.  I like the 6" model with the bull barrel.  It should appeal to the hunters and might fill a price niche.  I don't see anything between the $1100 Remington Hunter and $2100 Bruin.

mr.revolverguy

Dan Wesson Bruin or the Springfield TRP is the question.

I don't think the Remington R1 which is a rebranded Para Elite Hunter is even in the same class. I believe I can say that because I have a Elite Hunter and have handled a Bruin. I think springfield added the rails for aesthetic reasons supposedly the frame is beefed up there and would look odd without the rails.

I'd like to get more details on where and how they beefed it up.  If it is just in the front part of the frame is that really in a stress prone area?  Was it beefed up in response to evidence of premature wear in testing or in other 10mm 1911s or something else?

sqlbullet

I can't find any magazine articles or Springfield promo material that are calling attention to special beefiness added for the 10mm variant.

It appears to me that the just picked the railed frame for these guns, probably because of a focus on the tactical and hunting markets for these guns where accessories are more common.

There is reference to it in this video.  Perhaps reviewer is reading into it.

Wow....

So much fail in the first 1:30 of that video.

1.  Guns commonly cracking in 20K rounds.  Nope.  Colt had cracking issues they resolved by removing material from the frame.  Not a metallurgy issue.

2. The reason Springfield didn't make a 10mm before....Uhhh...They did.  It has been a custom shop option for years.

3.  This isn't just a "scaled up" 45...Yeah cause a 10mm 1911 is the same size as a 45 1911.

Sorry, I couldn't watch the rest.  This guy has no clue.

Ramjet

Did not watch the video but using the terms scaled up 45 is a mischaracterization. The frame and slide where designed using the latest design techniques FME in that they strengthened the gun where the gun sees allot of stress due to many rounds of full house 10mm. This is a ground up design using proven parts a design of one of the most iconic handgun designs the.....1911. This much improved specifically designed weapon is by no means a comparative up scaled 45. Those who remember the early days of the 10mm it fell out favor because of epic failures due to the high level pounding caused by the big 10 top end loads. Remember the Delta Elite and Witness Bren10 frame issues? Sure heat treat etc blame it on what you want it still happened......These Springfield guns are a step above. When mine comes I will do a dimensional comparison of the slide and frame rails to prove out that in comparison to the R1 it is worth the asking price. I have several Glocks and the trigger in the 1911 is worlds better than even the best after market Glock trigger. Now do not get me wrong I like my Glocks but the comparison is almost unfair in the accuracy department. Now give me a purpose built 10mm designed around the cartridge using the advantage of the 1911 platform and you have my attention.

Ramjet, it's gonna be different.  Just glancing at railed TRP pictures shows that it will measure out differently than an R1.

I wanna know how it is different than a railed TRP in 45 ACP from 3 years ago.  Cause I don't think it is.  I think we are hearing a bunch of fluff from guys that haven't ever inspected a TRP rail gun and are attributing the basics of that design to special MOJO for the 10mm.

More FUD that will, IMHO scare potential buyers away from the 10mm.

And, with regard to bad heat treat, but still it happened, I would point out that early Colt 1911's, pre A1, for government work also had serious frame issues.  Bad heat treatment left the frames too soft.  Bad manufacturing process is NOT design failure.
