Sean, what surplus powder are you burning?  WC844/846?  I am always on the lookup for a deal on powder for my growing collection of mil-surplus rifles.

Sorry about the delay in answering -Actually it is WC 748 . I do have a LOT of 844 I have not used it yet.
If you ever need some surplus 844 (8lb ) I will sell you some at a good price.

846 works fine for jacketed bullets in the Garand.  I do suggest magnum primers.  I had a couple of misfires with standard primers in cold weather with some WC846T.
