Ive been using Rennier's plated 10mm 180gr hollow points for practice, driven by an obsolete shotgun powder. They run around 1050 FPS or a bit better. Tried a few on left over citrons(the armadillo of the melon world) and they will take a 6" apart past trough 1 1/2" of soggy particle board and about 5-6" of wt sand. Picturebook expansion, worst one of small sample was 164.7gr others were 179gr. The bonded plating seems to keep it together. Ill give this a try on some deer remains and see how they hold up(when I get some). Bullets may be more versatile than we think. Ill have to try driving them faster too.

yes the "bonded" plating can help a bit--- usually the problem with plated bullets is the lead is super soft--- drive those 180's at 1300-1400 and they may grenade

let us know what you find though as it could be a nice option if they are using a "harder" lead core

Yes, keeping them at moderate velocities will help make sure that they do not come apart. Plated shotgun projectiles do really well thru hard barriers like safety glass, much better than the non-plated soft lead versions. And, soft lead slugs also hold together much better when they are launched at a slower velocity.

Xtreme sells a heavy plated 180.... I've pushed it to 11gr of Bluedot ( max load listed in book values ) to over 1200fps.... the plating from recovered heads have been 100%.
No shearing of plate and a very accurate round with a bit less powder ( 10.4gr )

BTW, Xtreme rates the heavy plated up < 1500fps

Finally got a WT carcass, and Ive run a series of the Rennier 180gr HPs thru the head into a citron . I recovered them from the hard ground under neath, or against a tire. They were launched from a 6"+ LW barrel by 11.5 gr of Bluedot at a range of scorched hair. The results are really surprising. Ill get the pictures up here as soon as I can.

Txhogman; The critter was for sure GYD after this sperriment. :) there are 3 bullets her the biggest is a fairly classic mushroom. It stated as the Rennier 180gr HP. It went thru the does skull and stopped in the skin against a motorcycle tire sidewall( just had a dead tire and used it for a backstop. The bullet cookie cuttered the hide and could be plucked out of the fur.It weighed 167gr . The next was a bit dishevled after going thru the skull at a different angle, it then killed a 5" citron and imbedded 3" into hard packed dirt. It weighed 163 gr. The third on the left apparently got the bases of both jawbones another citron and 2" of hardpacked dirt. It didnt do so well and wound up at 122gr.. There was a 4th that wasnt found till after I was disposing of the remains and foun it under the skin in the neck. It had passedthru the skull and shattered C2 into two major pieces and  bunch of little ones. It weighed 164 gr and looked almost like the first bullet- a nice mushroom. These were chased down a LW 6" barrel by 11.4 gr of OLD Bluedot. I didnt chrono these but when Id done some work last year a Sierra 180 went 1230FPS. All these shots were fired from close enough to burn hair. It really looks like they are robust enough to use on deer. I hope to find out this upcoming opening day firearm season on Saturday.
