Ruger Announces Super Redhawk in 10mm

Good timing. Been on a revolver kick as of late. Wish it were an SP101 but will buy one to support the cause.

I would have preferred a Redhawk as well.  Or a GP100 even better.  I suppose though that the engineers determined the SRH was the better platform as the "large frame" version of the GP100 line.

Well you won't have to chase those pesky sub-orbital 10mm brass. 

I'd have rather seen it in a GP-100 but that wouldn't fit Ruger's doctrine of building guns 120% stronger than they need to be.

Cylinder doesn't appear to be long enough to bore out to 10mm Magnum, which is a damn shame in such a heavy pistol...

i have 500 10mm magnum brass and a chamber reamer when i saw this i hoped it would support a conversion

A typical redhawk/super redhawk cylinder is 1.750" in length.  I can find no specs to indicate they are making shorter cylinders, and the photos appear to have the same length forcing cone as the other SRH guns.

I would think they are just boring standard SRH cylinders to .400 and then reaming them to 10mm auto.  If that is the case that is great for two reasons.  First, you can make a 10mm Magnum with a reamer.  Second, you can swap the cylinder into a redhawk along with a custom barrel to have a redhawk sized 10mm, or 10mm magnum.

Very much a happy dance.  And they are up on Gunbroker for anyone who has $850 they don't want in their pocket.

I don't care for the super redhawk design/looks---unless it's the Alaskan, but then you loose all your MV from that tiny barrel

I think they sure could have found a better platform than the Super Redhawk.  At 54 ounces, why 10mm?

I remember when Ruger brought out the 454 in the Super Redhawk and I wanted one in the worst way.  I could not find one so I bought a Raging Bull.  Finally, a Ruger became available so I bought it anyway.  I shot it one time and realized the Raging Bull was a much better firearm and sold the Ruger to a friend.

Two words:  Scope Mounts.

The SRH has integral scope mounts in the frame.  Just add rings for about $30 and you are GTG with a scope.

This is kinda an open field for Ruger to market.  The 10mm has hunting potential, but in many states you can't hunt most game with a semi-auto.  Or, more specically, they have capacity restrictions and barrel length minimums that make it hard.

The SRH is a well accepted hunting revolver.  I would love to see a GP100 sized gun as well, but this actually does make sense.
