Anyone carrying a S&W 1076 as an EDC?

Since my elusive 1911 10mm in a Combat Commander size has failed to appear I wanted to see if anyone is carrying the 1076.

Thanks guys!

I carry it often. Not EDC though. Have a 1076 with night sights, a NIB box 1076 and a 1066 I also carry..The best 10mm guns ever built! Sad Smith doesn't offer custom shop editions. They would sell out.

My favorite carry rig is the Galco  Miami claasic..

Just keep checking Gun broker . And start buying magazines! They go for close to 100.00 a piece now.

Or build your own. You can still get all the parts except for buttplate catch. I made one from a small piece of aluminum and a #6 SHCS.  Still runs you abut $60 ea but better than the alternative.  I Made 5 mags last year, have had no issues after 400 rounds.

If you want to build your own Commander sized 10mm, Sarco still has some of the Para Ordnance made Commander length stripped slides with 40/10 breech face. Priced at about $90.
You can find Drop in Commander length polished stainless steel 10mm barrels with link at Numrich for about $80.
I have built up an upper using these that I often use on my 45acp Detonics frame. Works good. Even with full blown loads from Underwood.

Why you gotta remind me of this? :P

Seriously, this is good advice if anyone is up to a build.

Building one is probably beyond me at this point. Thanks anyway!

Why have you decided against a 10mm Commander sized 1911? I have a Dan Wesson 10mm Commander Specialist in stainless steel that I special ordered through them before they added a Commander Specialist to their catalog in .45 ACP. I have no doubt they would make you one as well if you contact them like I did. It only took them 3 months to make it.

As for the S&W 1076, I had a brand  new one back when they were first released back in the 90's. I really hate that S&W safety located right on the slide where you grip it to chamber a round. The other thing I hated about S&W pistols is that magazine disconnector they have that disables the trigger if there is not a magazine inserted in the magazine well. If you are in the middle of a shooting incident and tactically drop your empty magazine with the last round in the chamber (as a safety measure so that you can still fire off a round if the situation called for it) while ejecting the empty magazine to conduct a combat reload, you can't fire that chambered round until a magazine is inserted. I don't currently own any S&W pistols because of those two reasons.

Doesn't the 1076 have Decocker on the left side of frame by grip panel? 1066 has slide safety Decocker. Magazine out trigger disconnect common to both...except FBI specific duty guns. They will have the factory slide stencil stating "Caution will fire with magazine removed."

The 1076, for me at least, is just one of those kinda bucket list guns. I like the 10mm in a Commander and back in June I contacted them to see about a build in a Commander. When it was all said and done it was $2,500.00. I'd love to have one but not that bad...

The mag/trigger issue was also with some of the old S&W Model 59s. I carried one of those for a VERY short period of time back in the day.

Thanks for the info.

On occasion I carry my 1076 with night sights. Easy enough conceal.
