so has anyone posted this yet??? I searched and could not find it here if it has been
G20, LW barrel, underwood extreme penetrator factory ammo

this is NOT a dig on glocks, or Lone wolf, or underwood--- this is to let people know that there may have been a QC error on the penetrator bullet where it was undersized -thus allowing bullet setback and over pressure of ammo

the article states that underwood has a voluntary recall if anyone has this older ammo you might check with underwood for LOT# issues
here is the article: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2017/01/jeremy-s/rip-glock-20-kaboom/

this has always been in the back of my mind with solid copper projectiles --- lehigh, barnes, COP, and CE --- since they are all sized at .400, not .401" --- if there were ever any under-sized  at .399or .398" you could have the same issue with your own personal reloads --- make sure you check the diameter is you have any bullets for reloading--- I bought 250 of the black barnes tac-xp pulls about 6 months ago and now am going to go check the diameter on all of them to make sure as there was obviously an issue as to why they were pulls

Yes the very UW round I did the pull down on showed small with my crude instruments @ 0.3995" at the upper most part od the bullet which may have been bumped larger from the crimp action.  The 4 power bands / 3 grooves 0.3645" as part of the bullet design to reduce frictional surface area.  I didn't write it down in the documentations but I think the lower bands were 0.3990".

well, bad news for me--- be warned !!!!! if you bought any "barnes black all copper plated bullets" from americanreloading.com you may have undersized bullets

I recently purchased 250 of the "barnes black" pulls in 40 caliber that are the 140grain barnes tac-xp bullets from American reloading

I measured them after I read the above article and guess what---!!!!! see my picture below

how small is too small?

for reference, I have  2 boxes of factory loaded Barnes 140grain tac-xp in 40S&W-- so I pulled one and measured it too, the factory bullet measures .399-.3995" just below the ogive, and .398" at the base --

Yep, mine measure 0.3990" / 0.3995" / 0.4000" in the sample I weighed.  The good thing is they are long bodied and if your cases are sized well, then they may not pose a problem with the surface area of the Barnes bullets.

Another thing is you can add sealant to help them stay in place.

They drop freely into a sized, belled case about 1/2 way, then start to have some slight resistance near the ogive. I'm thinking the Lee fcd might be the ticket for these bullets as it applies a true taper crimp...as long as it doesn't undersize the mouth so it still properly headspaces --- just gotta pay special attention to them when loading

My RCBS die does a good job of sizing the casing near the case mouth area and the expander plug still leaves the casings with great neck tension.  I am constantly checking my rounds to see if the bullets will spin inside or push or pull...

Be careful with the LEE FCD, I found it to leave some bullets loose when they were resized by the carbide ring as they were fitted in the casing.

K, I'll watch for the fcd...my other crimp dies have a "ridge" And if you try to crimp too hard it will buckle the case so I thought the fcd might be a better option for undersized bullets.

I could not get the pulled tac-xp bullets to group worth a darn in my 40, maybe the undersize bullets are the culprit --- they grouped ok but not great from my 10mm
