Yep here what they sent me:
QuoteThis is a special time in the history of GLOCK.  On August 30, GLOCK, Inc. will be announcing the launch of our new G17 Gen5 and G19 Gen5 pistols.  Because you are a member of GLOCK ID, we wanted you to hear the news first, from us, before the general public finds out.

The G17 Gen5 and G19 Gen5 pistols were inspired by the GLOCK M pistols used by the FBI and include many features the GLOCK community has been asking for.  There are over 20 design changes which differentiate our Gen5 pistols from their Gen4 predecessors, including a flared mag-well, a new nDLC finish, the GLOCK Marksman Barrel, ambidextrous slide stop levers, and a grip which has no finger grooves.

These pistols will be available at your favorite GLOCK dealer beginning August 30.  We hope you will go in to see them and try them.

Thank you for your continued support.

Wish I could get Testoprime here in California.

Are the gen 5s much better than the previous models?

Not really.

Gen 5 adds ambidextrous slide release and contoured nose section. The finger grooves are removed for people with very large or small hands. Nothing else over the Gen 4 guns.

I held one two weeks ago at my range / LGS. I likes the trigger better than the previous Glock generation triggers.

Also, only G17 and G19 for now.  They say they won't be making these in any other caliber.  But time may change that.

The 17 is the standard frame and the 19 is the compact frame. There is no frame difference between the 9mm, 40S&W, 357SIG and possibly 45Gap. The only different is the slide and the ejector insert. Those are generally interchangable with all generations. It is possible for them to make a Gen5 in the other calibers without any changes otherwise.

The question seems to be, that since it is a single pin frame, will it withstand higher pressure calibers or would they make it a two pin?  The single pin didn't work well before but maybe this frame would be ok.

agree---I have a gen 1 single pin 17 and the recommendation is to NOT switch barrels/calibers on the single pin frames as the extra recoil could crack the frame with the single pin

Uhhh...They use a different barrel shape.  The frames of the Gen 5 17/19 are different than the Gen 4 22/23 and the barrels from the Gen 4 guns won't work on the Gen 5 frames.

The locking blocks and recoil springs are different too.

I suppose is someone (Lone Wolf, Storm Lake, Bar Sto) were to make 40/357 sig barrels you could probably swap in a G22/23 slide and create a franken Gen 5.  Maybe.  The slides are different, but without having both side by side I don't know if the differences would create an issue.

Got mine earlier this week:

I didn't have a G19/23 in inventory, and since it is the gun I most commonly recommend to people that want to buy a gun but not shop for a gun, I figured I should get one.

I bought it with my GSSF discount card this year.  That is a great deal by the way.  If you don't hate Glock, sign-up.

Overall my thoughts are that it is a Glock.  Trigger feels just like my G29 and G20.  In fairness I have polished the tarnation out of the parts in the other guns, and they have over 2000 round each on the clock.  The G29 way over that.  The fact that the trigger on the Gen 5 feels just like the triggers on my well broken in and polished other Glocks indicates it is an improvement over the G4, but it is NOT life changing.  Still a glock trigger.

I never liked the finger grooves, so that is a win for me.  I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Looking forward to a Range report!

i'm either going to buy this or wait for the new Glock 46 with rotating barrel.
