I'm ordering the Wolffe guide rod and spring for my 29SF. Should I go to 21# or 23# for shooting Underwood or other heavy rounds? I'd be shocked if Critical Duty cycles though.

I've got a Glock 36, which uses the same spring as the 29...I've carried that 36 for quite a few years now and it has never seen a round that wasn't +P that I'm aware of, 230 grain HST's clock nearly 900 fps from that 3.77" barrel, thats a pretty warm load.

The 36 has a much lighter slide than the 29, and my 36 still has the original factory spring in it and works just fine...just saying, I wouldn't overdo it.

They are fairly cheap, and I want to see if it really effects recoil.

Overkill338,  I put the Wolff non captive dual recoil rod and springs in my G-29 and it has been great.  I have the 21 lbs which I keep inside it and also the 23 lbs but rarely use it except for testing...I use the 21lbs for 10mm/40S&W/357Sig and 9x25 Dillon from this neat little pistol...

Here is what I found when taking measurements:
Glock 29 spring test Wolff Gun Springs 21lb RSA installed
It takes 6lb 4oz to start the slide to move from the locked position
Full retraction at 21lb 3oz at lock open

Glock 29 spring test Wolff Gun Springs 23lb RSA installed
It takes 7lb 1oz to start the slide to move from the locked position
Full retraction at 23lb 5oz at lock open

Glock 29 Factory spring test
It takes 4lb 5oz to start the slide to move from the locked position
Full retraction at 16lb 10oz at lock open

Duck of Death

I put a 21# Wolff uncaptured in a G29SF, it handled  the hot loads w/no frame battering. Also puts the brass @ my feet w/40 SW--4gr Clays/180 Zero.

I'll add l arachnagrip to help pull the 21#. No FS for me. I like my hands hole free.

Thank you for this post.  I had put heavier springs in a G20 before but never bothered with my G29's.  Don't know why but just after reading your post I ordered the 21# kit from Wolff.  The kit came in yesterday and I shot both G29's with it this morning.  Though only about 100 rounds were fired with it, they all fed & functioned perfectly.  The heavier loads were much easier to shoot.  Didn't try any real light loads but moderate to max were perfect.

More testing is needed to make sure these results continue but it looks like money very well spent.

Thanks again!

You're welcome.  I like testing and learning various things and it was interesting to see that Wolff meets their ratings on these springs.  It was also interesting to learn that there was more spring pressure at lock up as well... :D
