Locking to the rear, as in slide stop engaged, or hanging up on something else?  Completely to the rear, or a three point jam?

If the slides locking open take a close look at the slide lock inside the gun... I bet you will find some copper marking from the bullet hitting it and causing the lock to engage. At least that's what I found was the issue with mine.  A little time with a file or dremmel to gently clearance it fixed my problem.

Congratulations!  Sorry to hear about the feed problems. I've had mine for a month or two now, and I'm not sure I've been able to get thru an entire mag without a jam. But, all of the ammo I've fired has been handloaded, and I know some of that ammo won't even load into the magazines because overall length is too big. In trying to get anything to feed in my G20 and G29, I've been loading a bit longer, and those rounds won't go into the RIA mags.

Other than that, which I'm confident I'll work thru, I do enjoy shooting the gun. I can't imagine it as an EDC (or even a once-in-a-while carry), and I believe it's the heaviest handgun I've ever held. It's also quite possibly the most uncomfortable to my hand, as it feels like a bunch of sharp edges, nooks and crannies. I've modified that notch at the rear top of the magwell, and that mod has stopped the red blistering of my strong hand, and is now quite comfy.  Not much to be done about the sharp-edged notches where the tang safety fits, but those are much more modest than that magwell issue.

I find it rock solid, I actually like the finish, and so far I haven't seen any issues with the sights...but then I only have 3-400 rds thru it at most--most of the ammo has to go back thru the press to get shortened up.

Despite a few roadbumps getting started, I think you're going to be quite pleased...I think I will be.

Bongo Boy, while I haven't gotten mine to the range yet, all my other 10mm 1911's don't like "long" ammo.  That is anything over 1.250"

Got a chance to shoot it on Sunday. It's quite accurate. Sights seem dead on. I had about 8 ftf out of a box of 50. The slide just stayed locked to the rear. I'm hoping it just needs to be broken in more. Was Sig ammo.

I run a RIA Ultra Pro HC, model 52000 (hand fitted). The extractor (tension) was a little tight (shaved the rim of the brass) and had to be tweaked (tuned) a bit. The brass shaving under the extractor caused FTF when ran fast.

What type of FTF are you getting ? Nose diving could be a mag issue, or the ectractor is not grabbing the case. Getting stuck half way in or at the top of the barrel can be caused by the extractor being too tight or the ammo COL (even bullet type).

Just some ideas....Google tuning a 1911 extractor or FTF issues.

Edit: Not the same 1911 pistol (STI 2011) or caliber but will give you a few ideas of why FTF can happen

I too have the RIA 52000--- I watched the video and tweaked my feed lips before I ever went to the range--I get an occasional "hang-up" where it appears to be that the extractor is just a bit too tight as I get a "nose up" failure to feed where it basically tries to jam the round nose up into the hood of the barrel and the rear of the round is caught under the extractor

I have only shot the gun 1x at the range and had a fail to feed about 1 or 2x per mag of ammo--I will watch more carefully next time I'm at the range to see if it truly is the extractor that needs adjusting a bit-- it seems to be a common problem --- it is not shaving brass off the rim tight, but I think it may need to be "relaxed" just a bit

So, I finally got started on that magwell I can't stand.  I took it to the grinder and removed a ton of the bulk from the sides, and then started working on it with files to clean and blend it with the gun.  Here is where it stands today:





I still have about 1-2 hours of file and sanding work to clean it up and make it even all around.  Then sandblasting and a trip to the park tank.

I am very happy with the results so far.  I have not lost hardly any of the magwell "flare" and have a much smaller, more carry-able package.

For those wondering, the mainspring housing was chosen to be "sacrificed".  I needed something to use as a guide, knowing full well that it would be bitten by a file from time to time.  I may try to clean up the checkering, or perhaps just take the checkering off completely.  Or toss it in the parts bin to be used the next time I do a blend.

It has been down for most of the time I owned it disassembled while I worked over the magwell.

I was supposed to get out this week a few times, but have been under the weather and preferred rest.  I did get some reloading done, so there is plenty of 180 grain JHP ready to shoot.

Curious, did you get a chance to gauge the recoil spring weight yet? Me wonders if they have exceeded the 18# suggested max since my vintage Ultra FS was made.
How far is it throwing the brass with the stock spring setup?

That's going to be quit a bit of firepower at your disposal with that on your belt!
