I always owned multiple calibers of Glocks except the 10mm. Rumors of violent recoil and the guns breaking kept me away.

At Christmas 2016 my wife gave me a 29SF I had been wanting to try. I bought ammo of all types. Winchester Silvertips, Hornady Critical Duty, Sig V-Crowns (love these) and even tested some Underwood stuff. Here are my results.

Glock 29 stock 3.77" barrel

Underwood 180 Gold Dot - 1230
Underwood 180 XTP - 1256
Underwood 200 Nosler (given to me) - 1134
Underwood 200 Nosler (I bought)  - 1144
Sig Sauer 180 V-Crown - 1181
Hornday Critical Duty - 1087
Georgia Arms Gold Dot - 1185
Winchester 175 Silvertip - 1129

Fired from a Glock 23 stock 4.05" barrel. Some of the .40's are advertising numbers.

180 HST (no +P) - 1010 (advertising 4" barrel)
180 Gold Dot - 1025
180 Golden Saber - 1015
175 Critical Duty - 1010 (advertising 4" barrel)
180 Underwood  Gold Dot - 1105
200 Underwood Nosler - 950

The more I played with it, the more I loved it. I even bought regular .40 S&W target ammo and it functions perfectly through the 10mm barrel like a 38 in a 357. I cleaned my chamber good and went right back to perfect accuracy with 10mm ammo.

The Glock 29 is so versatile. Small enough, I wear it inside the waistband all day long. Then you can pick what power ammo you want to use. Critical Duty 175 grain from a Glock 29 is about 100 fps faster than the Critical Duty 175 from a Glock 23, and your choices just climb from there.

In town I carry Sig V-Crown 180's, around home I carry Underwood 200 grainers. Then if I go hiking in black Bear, mountain lion territory I carry Underwood 200 grain Hardcast which is good for about 6 feet of penetration.

Here are some of my double tap practice with the 180 Sigs.

I carry the gun with a 10 round mag with pinky extension and my backup mag is a G20 mag with an X-grip sleeve.

I've also just ordered a stock length 9x25 Dillon barrel for my G29 and I can not wait to try it, it may become my carry round. My friend Justin at Underwood said the 125 Bonded Nosler averaged 1522 and the penetration is in the 16" range. That's a pure semi auto 357 Magnum or 357 SIG on a steroid cycle.

When I get it all squared away and loads tested, I'll add to this article, or just write a completely different one.

I hope you've enjoyed my experience with the Glock 29SF. The SF makes it easier to hold and recoil is not that bad as long as you alter your grip and stance. I'm to a point now, I'd need a shot timer to tell the difference between my Glock 23 and Glock 29 double taps.

Great report.
I have and love my G29. I am soon to add a G40. I should have all the bases covered at that point.
My neighbors dog has been telling me some very disturbing things lately. I just ignore him because everybody knows that dog is crazy.

Nice write up thanks for the chrony numbers too.

I have been a 10MM fan since the beginning buying a Delta when they where first offered, Then later a 1991 G20. Couple years back I bought a gen3 G29 too for daily carry. I carry same as your picture, using a 10rnd G20 mag with a X-Grip. (I use orange butts to quickly know I have a 10 rounder and not a 15. Of my Glocks the G23, G29 and now the G35 are my favorites!

G20 in winter with 5.5 ported LW barrel.

My G29 Summer carry. (Note orange butt)

These are my favorite for hunting loads in the 10. I have yet to buy a proper mold for the 10. (Read WFN GC mold)

I am also a huge 40 fan. (5 Glock 40's here) Here is my fav G23 and the G20

I haven't spent allot of time behind my chrony with the 10. I always say I need to, but never seem to do it.

Nice write up.  The G29 is the most common carry gun for me anymore, usually appendix carry.  I have tried a variety of holsters over the last few months for this style of carry.  My two favorites right now are the Crossbreed Supertuck and a Relentless Tactical Defender.  The Defender is a cheap holster, which usually doesn't end well, but so far I do like it.

One item of constructive feedback on your article.

The opening paragraph:

Ive always loved Glocks in general, but never could figure out why I couldn't shoot the full size guns as well. The 17, 22, 31, 37, 20, and 21. But the compacts and sub-compacts I shoot very well.

This leads the reader to think you are going to reveal at some point why you shoot the compact/sub-compact guns better than the full size.  This question is never addressed in the article.  If I were an editor headed to publication with this article, I would just remove this paragraph.  The second paragraph works better as an introduction to this article.

Thank you SQL. I really have no clue why I can't shoot the long sight radius Glocks well.

I'll edit my article.

Thank you for the article. Hopefully, it will bring others into the G29 family.

Nice! Could be the G29 is a bit more popular than I thought--it's my usual carry as well, loaded with 180gr XTPs.

Three molds I use include a real sweet-shooting hp from Mihec and a round-nose flat point from Accurate. Neither feed worth a hoot in the G29 though, so I've just stopped trying and stick mostly to XTPs and HAPs from Hornady. I also experience consistent feed problems using any of my G20 mags in the G29, and have given up on doing that, too.

I shot my G29 Gen 4 for the first time today. I was very pleasantly surprised with it. At 15 yards all in upper chest area of the silhouette (group could have been a lot tighter). That was with 180 gr FMJ. I shot a few 165gr JHPs in both Underwood and DoubleTap. I seemed to shoot lower chest/stomach area but with a better group. Recoil was not what I expected. Didn't appear to be that much more than my G30S. Made a bigger bang though!

I put another 125 rounds of 180 gr Sellier and Bellot through my Gen 4 G29 today and was very satisfied with both my shooting and of course, the gun.  I really enjoy shooting this pistol; I like the fistful of firepower, I like the way it functions, I like the way it carries at 3:30 in my TT Gunleather IWB Holster.  She's all clean and resting in the safe now, mags are clean too and all loaded back up, ready to go to work when called for.

My 29 is one of my favorite handguns ...my wife who finds my 23 " way to snappy" , she really enjoys shooting 40 S&W out of the 29 ..
