My Dillon 10mm dies should arrive this Friday and now I have to pick a powder.  Currently watching the Favorite Powder thread that was started yesterday, along with all of the other great information in this forum.  Going to be shooting 180gr plated bullets thru 4.6" barrel G20 and was originally going to go with AA#9, but not sure at the moment.

What other, if any, pistol powder do you have on hand?

The_Shadow

For your 180 grain bullets:
If Blue Dot is Used 10.4 grains will be some good fun loads to develop proficiency.
Power Pistol or BE-86 will also work well and meter better.
BE-86 8.4 grains
PP 8.6 grains

The powder that I currently have on hand is Vectan Nobel Ba-9.  I have thought about using it and they do have some limited data for this powder in the 10mm.

Yes, I have looked over the Vectan data for Ba-9 with 6.4 grains being the upper max @ 1089 fps.
I haven't had the chance to work with the Vectan powders so I can't offer much advice.

I am liking what I get from AA9 and Long Shot. I want to try Blue Dot. Does Blue Dot meter well?
My neighbors dog has been telling me some very disturbing things lately. I just ignore him because everybody knows that dog is crazy.

Yes Blue Dot is a cut flake powder, it meters fairly well from my RCBS UniFlow.  But I still I hand weigh all of my loads while working near the upper limits. ::)

I headed out to the local reloading supply store today with the intention of buying a pound of AA#9, but we discussed and he persuaded me on a pound of WSF. I realize that I ask for help from the forum and I did a 180 degree.  I will let everyone know how it works out, both the good and the bad.  I also picked up some Berry's .40 180 Gr Round Shoulder bullets and CCI 300 primers.

WSF is a faster burning powder for the 10mm coarse flattened powder...pressure rises before the bullets get a good head of steam as compared to other powders.  Good luck!

I'm committed to giving it a try, worst case scenario it will become fertilizer. :)

WSF is probably too fast for anything above FBI or plinking loads -- from Hodgdon's site:

Not sure where Nobel gets their numbers, but they're bogus.

Ba-9 w/ 165's at "minimal" velocities showed flattened primers and light smiles.

Not a good fit.

I will have to give the WSF a try, but hindsight being 20/20 I probably should of stuck to my original intent of AA#9, as others in this site were recommending.

As for the Vectan Ba-9, it is my go to powder for my 9mm loads and I do agree that their load data is not the best.  I had to start low and work up to the load that works really good with the 125gr The Blue Bullet.
