600 just seems extreme for a barrel job. I would keep the gun as is for that money. You can buy a Tangfoglio elite match for around that. Or a Glock after tax.

Here is the problem with the Kart barrel. By the time that the bottom of the chamber is fitted just a bit off the feed ramp as 1911 barrels need to be, you are going to have cartridge exposure just like you do in the factory barrel. If this could be that easily solved with this type of barrel, Colt would have done it years ago. That is the Achilles heel of that type of barrel/feed ramp arrangement. You have to go integral feed ramp to beat this problem. Without one, you are just spending a bunch more money and ending up with the same problem.

If you like the Colt Delta Elite that much, just keep it as it is. If not and you want to shoot a lot of the full throttle stuff with no worries, sell the Delta and put the six hundred bucks you are planning to spend on the new barrel toward what you got for the Delta and get a Dan Wesson.

I have fit a couple of 1911 barrels over time and have never had to alter the chamber depth.

The distance you refer to is controlled, as I recall, but the length of the link.  But it has been several years and I could be wrong.

Not sure what I am missing.

I wouldn't do the barrel swap. I have a newer Colt Delta, I shoot the Underwood ammo out of it regularly and have never had any pressure issues. From what  it sounds like you are wanting to do, you will be fine.

I was just out shooting my Delta yesterday with my warm reloads of Blue Dot that are hitting @ 1250 fps and no problems what so ever!! The only problem that I have is that I lose about 10% of my brass :) I was also shooting my new Colt SS Comp in .38 Super also with a charge of 9.1 gr of Blue Dot with a 124 gr hard cast bullet and what a load that is !!! again no ramp barrel in the .38 Super and all my brass looks just fine.
The .38 Super and the 10mm are my favorite caliburs to shoot in the 1911 platform :)
Today if the sun is out today I am going to Chrono my .38 Super again just to make sure the vel that I got with the Blue Dot load was true.
