agreed! I'm thinking if I use the electronic powder dispenser it would of been a lot closer. I may retest the 147gr +p+ underwood with the new chronograph this weekend just to see if any discrepancies show up. I also loaded up some 147gr gold dots on top of 6.9gr 3n38. I want to see what velocity i get with that  :D

Finally was able to get out and do some chronograph testing on some of the duplicated Underwood loads.

I utilized just for fun some, pulled hydra-shok bullets I had laying around. I dropped the powder charge by .2 grains. I think this could be a pretty good load for the old hydra-shok, especially since federal has released these as a component bullet. I will work up to the full charge and see what happens in the near future.

In previous testing I posted about the 147gr +p+ load giving me lower than advertised velocity. They have been historically short by about 100fps.
This time I used blazer brass compared to the standard starline i traditionally used. I did get some higher velocities compared to before. I have a feeling that case capacity plays a big part in this load. The factory Underwood loads I have measured at 13.8 and 13.9gr H2O case capacity. Starline was 14gr H2O. Blazer was 13.5gr H2O. I believe the velocities would have been higher if I used the same overall length of 1.116" as the factory underwoods I have on hand.

I also loaded and tested the 115gr +p+ load, I added a little margin of safety by setting the overall length to 1.070" compared to the factory 1.058". Velocities were close to the advertised 1400fps. All shots were fired from my M&P 9mm FS 4.25" Barrel. 75 degrees Fahrenheit Morral, Ohio

Glad to see your testing results about the UW duplicating with the AutoComp powder... Very nice and respectable results!

Indeed, I want to get some more ballistic gel and test the Hydra shok bullets. Work them up as close as possible to 1300fps and test them through bare and denim covered gel.

I'm just interested as to what they can do if the velocity is cranked up compared to the anemic velocity federal loaded them to. Even the +p+ federal 124gr was only 1200fps.

Ill be posting the pictures of the velocity and a recovered Hydra shok. It was informal and I used water today, but I'll give a hint, I haven't ever seen a Hydra shok blow apart.

So as I reported earlier, I chronographed the Hydra shok +p+ using a similar charge of autocomp as per the Underwood 124gr gold dot +p+.

I used 6.3gr of autocomp, I backed down
.1gr just for sale of a jacketed versus a plated bullet. Overall length of 1.116", federal brass and federal small pistol primers.

Shots were fired from my M&P 4.25" full size.

I didn't get a chance to test these in gel, as I didn't have the time to make a block. So these results represent maximum upset.

Tested using 4 one gallon jugs of water. Penetrated to the third jug, bullet and jacket separated inside the third jug. All fragments were recovered from the second jug.

Chronograph velocities are featured in the pictures.

Nice work Pctechdude, Thanks for your efforts!

Yeah the water definitely tore it up shadow. But hey since federal released those as components, figured why not.

Kenk, welcome! Definitely fun and enjoyable to see what we can get out of the 9mm.

How would you guys feel shooting the UW +P+ ammo thru the smaller pistols ie: Springfield Armory HellCat and SigSauer P365?

And have you guys done the +P UW 124s and 147s tear downs.

Kenk

Well, the P365 is rated for +P ammo, just not sure how the experience or accuracy would be 😀

I've shot some through my Glock 43. I wouldn't have any issues with it in that gun. Shield would be a no. I've see some gnarly brass in the shields from +p loads. Looks like the old Glock 40s&w brass. A pretty substantial bulge. I haven't fired a p365 or hellcat so I cannot speaks on those
