When I looked at the pictures closely in post #28 the Sillhouette powder shows very tiny black beads od sherical powder in the mix the powder in the picture of the pull down doesn't show that at all.  However Yondering was going to test the Sillhouette powder in a work up.  I haven't heard back yet how this went?  ???

Since the school shooting and the threats by the gun grabbers, with the current run on supplies, I haven't made the long haul to Bass Pro Shop, to get some Winchester AutoComp for my testing.  Eventually I'll get my hands on some... :-[

Forgot about this thread.

Sillhouette definitely isn't what Underwood is using for this load. It looks similar enough, but velocity is down by more than 100 fps with the same powder charge and components, compared to the Underwood loads.

I'm back to thinking it's probably AutoComp.

I can still post pics if anybody cares, but it looks close enough to what's in the Underwood loads that I don't see a difference.

Thanks Yondering!  First chance to find some AutoComp in stock I'll purchase and give it shot!

Shadow, if the Bass Pro nearest you is like the one here in Macon, there is nothing left. Last weekend all they had were a few shotgun primers and three or four pounds of 296.

The BPS is in Baton Rouge, 80 miles one way so I'll be calling first to see if they have the stuff I'm looking for!  :-\

I'm sending you two of Kevin's very first 9mm's to see what they are. They were pretty hot back then with no +P rating so I'm curious! They are 115 and 124 with I think Zero bullets.

Today Tested Underwood's 115 gr Gold Dot +P+, January 27th 2013 Velocity 1447 fps as tested from the Ruger P-85, primer slightly flattened Case expanded 0.3930"
Updated  the first post to add the test data.

That's pretty smokin!
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

The Underwood 115gr Hornady XTP (old) while I INITIALLY thought this cartridge looked to be loaded with Rex II the pictures and data sort of fit this... (flake reddish gray color)?  REX powders are from Hungary...REX 0, REX I, REX II, REX III
They we avalible for a while from Graf & Son. but even REX's website is gone...

New information and data suggest this powder to be Hodgdon's Universal Clays powder.
All info is updated to reflect this change...

It was Kevin's originals where he was using once-fired brass. I wasn't shocked it was a different powder than the new ones. Big question is what bullet is that? I thought it is an XTP but don't know for sure.

Chopinbloc has some of the old 9mm's for gel as well. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the new smoker +P+.
