so here is the story. i have a G20, my buddy has an HK40.
We go to the range quite often, he has shot my G20 with weak factory SB ammo. agreed not impressive.
His comments " i dont see a difference!"

Im not trying to be a jerk, but man " this is 10mm"
All I'm looking for is a reason for him to say "I gotta buy a 10!"
Yeah im a jerk i know.
Does it come down to ammo?

Would you shoot .38 Special out of a .357 Magnum and wonder what the big deal with .357 is?

The_Shadow

When you have the real deal 10mm ammo it will shine like a beacon...Underwood, Double Tap, Buffalo Bore, Original NORMA or my favorite the SwampFox ammo of a time long past...

Having the ability and knowledge to duplicate and roll my own 10mm stuff makes for some great potential and ballistics. 8)

This.

In all reality this is what you have done.

Recoil = momentum reaction to launching a bullet.  That momentum is easily calculated by p=mv.  So, doesn't matter the cartridge, all that matters is the mass of the bullet and the velocity.

Load up some 135 grain 10mm at 385 fps and it will recoil just like hyper velocity 40 grain 22 long rifle.

If you want him to go "son of a ...I gotta get one a these" then order up some Buffalo Bore or Underwood ammo.

Underwood 165 grain should do him nicely. I have also fired a lot of 200 grain Underwood.

Either way he will be able to see what all the fuss is about.

we went in halves on a progressive  press. now im buying some xtp, primers and powder. time to put a smile on his face and show him while the 40sw is a decent round, also neutered.

...give him a pair of 1 gallon water jugs at 40' , one for each caliber. ::) ::) 8)

See what motivational  :o enhancement that produces. :P

Print out this chart and show it to him.

How powerful is 10mm? Well, see those craters on the moon?

Start reloading. That really is what the 10mm is all about.

I agree. You can't realize the full potential of the 10mm unless you reload.

Dillon  550C , dies and bench ready to go. picking up some 180xtp, primers powder in next few days. This should prove intersting.  Replies much appreciated gents.

It is easy to get excited and just jump past starting loads.

Don't.

It may be years before that practice bites you, but it will eventually bite you.  I have three cases on desk to remind me of this.

Olgo

Underwood loads them pretty darn hot. In fact some of them were so hot that they backed off on the loadings.

the cautious advice is apprciated.
note taken duly.

I've been reloading 10mm in a variety of recipes much of the past year.

While I've come up with some satisfactory loads based on published data sheets, rather embarrassing to admit this:

My "best" loads, defined as 'most pleasant AND most accurate at all range games thus far explored, has been the SIG factory 180 defensive stuff.
