New to the forum.  Just purchased my first 10mm. A RIA Ultra FS in 10mm .    Took her out for a test drive the other day and only had one fte but had a dozen out of 50 rounds with the casings crushed at the top end.  I have read that others have had this issue and it was a extractor tension issue.   Should I give up and call Armscor and send it back or should I put another fifty of a different ammo brand through it and see if it continues.  was shooting Sellier and Bellot.   Gun was dead on and handled great otherwise.

So...If it was me I would tension the extractor myself.  It takes about 10 minutes to do, which is way better than waiting a week (at best) or longer for armscor to do the job.  But, I have done it before on several 1911's.

On the other hand, if you send it back you will probably get another magazine for your trouble.  That has been their MO in the past.

Either way, another 50 rounds is going to result in another dozen mangled cases.

Well   Field stripped the weapon.   Brass particles everywhere.  Looks like the slide in scarred in a few spots and  heavy brass residue at the front of the ejection port.  did the tensioner test.  Not a lack of tension.   It will be on its way back to Armscor to see what its major malfunction is?  Hopefully it gets taken care of this time.   Miss it already :'(    Guess Ill have to shoot the 45 till its returns.

They are similar to this

Yeah.  That is definitely brass that has not cleared the breech when the action closed.  That would indicate failure of the extractor or a broken ejector.

its going back to them.  Thank you for your input.  The ones that do eject properly fly a long way

I had to reshape the ejector on mine and fitted a flat bottom FPS. Now most of the brass goes to my right or slightly behind me without beating up the brass or dinging the slide. alsso picked up 2 Tripp mags that made a world of difference. Good luck with yours, welcome to the 10mm addiction.

All my 10's tend to send the empties into low Earth orbit! ;)
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

What ammo are you shooting?  Too light of a load for the installed recoil spring can cause the same symptom; the slide does not have enough velocity to strike the ejector with enough force to knock the case free of the extractor before the slide closes and captures the case between breech and barrel hood.  Reloading for Bullseye matches and tweaking the recoil spring go hand in hand, but along the way I've seen case mouths crushed like that.

Too much extractor tension will also cause FRTB failures with the round hung up below the extractor and the nose partially in the chamber.

Sellier and Bellot and then I put 70 rounds of sig ammo through it.

Unfortunately Im not comfortable yet with doing any of my own smithing work.  Thanks for all the info on possible fixes.   I knew going in the gun may need some tweeks  but Im going to give Armscor the first shot at correcting the issue.  I ve talked to a few guys at the gun shop I purchased it at and they had no problems with theirs right out of the box.   Excited about joining the 10mm ranks.  Especially after shooting it for the first time.  fun fun fun

Armscor will make it right, good CS.

Mine mangled brass and I kept tuning the extractor until it improved. Not perfect yet but it's much better than when I bought it.

Yep that's what they looked like.  I'm not comfortable doing my own tuning.  I'll just wait till it comes back.  I've got a couple of boxes of sig ammo for it to eat when it returns.   Just hope it spits out the empties correctly

wow...you would think something like this would be caught when they are proof shooting the gun.
