I guess I'm getting the 9x25 Dillon barrel after all

I've been on the fence for months whether I'd get the 9x25 barrel or not for my G29. I guess I'm gonna get it because I kept thinking about it. As powerful as a 357mag (out of a G29 IMO) yet easier to shoot than a 10 mil I have to consider that option.

The 357mag is a well known man stopper and well reputed as such and I think the 10mm is in the same boat though if not better.

That's my excuse but really it's a novelty for me to have one meaning more toys for my gun.  :D

I have a 40sw and an extended 10mm barrels for it already.  ::)

The 9x25 has always intrigued me and I got my start with a Bar-Sto conversion barrel for my S&W1006 that I purchased from Mike McNett of Double Tap, since then I have gotten the conversions for my G20 6" and G29 3.78".

The other day a guy on Facebook was selling some 9x25 and 357 Sig Dillon dies at a fair price, I tried to get some people who were interested intouch to buy them...even posted here till they were gone... ::)

Oh well, I can handle $100 for the barrel and more for the ammo. Luckily I made a sale on Reverb so it'll offset the cost some.  :D

BTW, I do hand load my own 9x25 Dillon and the info is in the wildcat section...

Can the G29 barrel length make use the extra powder that is in the 9x25 Dillon case as opposed to just using 357 SIG? The G29 has a 3.77" barrel.

Underwood shows 1700fps for a 125 gr XTP in a 9x25 cartridge from a 6" barrel, and 1475fps for a 125 gr XTP in a 357 SIG cartridge from a 4" barrel. The 9x25 has an operating pressure of ~36K psi and the 357 SIG is 40K psi.

I ran some calculations in Quickloads, and the 9x25 is only 50fps faster than the 357 SIG through a 3.77" barrel.

It does take a bit more powder to make a bullet go 50 fps faster.

This video did some comparison with the G20 and G29 using the 9x25 barrels. The G29 got the avg vel of 1522 fps with Uw 125 GD.

Actually AMMOTEST was a member here although he hasn't been on in quite sometime!

Here are some Pull-Downs to look at if you get interested in handloading...

With what I have perused on the internet I decided I want a .357 Sig barrel before the 9x25. Of course, it will be awhile before I get any additional barrels for my G29.  It took decades before I bought a 10mm. :)

I've thought of the 357sig but with the power of 10mm I have the 357sig is a downgrade. I prefer the power of the 9x25. I got a 40sw barrel because I have lots of 40sw and also cheaper to buy for the range.

It's interesting though that the 40sw, 357sig, 10mm and the 9x25 Dillon can all use the same magazine.

I received an email from Lone Wolf yesterday and I was told that they are bringing back the stock length 357 barrel for the G29 but in their Alpha Wolf line and it's a few months away from introduction.  They still have a ported version available for it in the regular line. So if you want a stock length they should be on their way soon.

TNoutdoors9 did a test of Underwood 357 SIG with a 125gr GD from a Glock 32 4" barrel and got ~1510fps. That is ~10fps slower from a 0.2" longer barrel. It doesn't seem worth it to shot the 9x25 in a Glock 29.

If you reload your own 357 SIG, you can make the COAL the same as 10mm/45ACP to better fit in the magazine, and it will allow more powder for higher velocities. I think you can load 357 SIG to perform the same as 9x25 in a G29. See picture below of 357 SIG cartridges loaded to 1.260" COAL.

Well, I finally did it. I ordered the LWD 9x25 Dillon standard length barrel for my G29. Also ordered a box of 50 rnd Uw 125 FMJ and two boxes of 20 rnd Uw 124 XTP.

Now that it's over I can get some sleep.   :))
