10mm long slide double stack under $2k that eats +P?

Thought I had a 1911 picked out but availability is becoming an issue.  Besides Glock G40, EAA witness hunter, and the elusive Rock Island, what are some others to consider.  Thought I should start looking at other options.  I'm trying to ignore "ugly" as a mitigating factor... maybe. Something +P will not beat to death.

No such thing as +P 10mm.  If  you see 10mm ammo for sale with a +P rating its just a marketing scam. I'm not aware of any current production ammo that is labeled +P for 10mm. If anyone finds any, please let me know.

As for your question, there aren't many options considering you eliminated Glock, EAA etc. I have seen STI Perfect 10 for sale on gunbroker from $1900-2500. Prices fluctuate. Right now most are going for $2300 new on gunbroker. They are amazing guns though.

But in my opinion, I'd go with the Witness Hunter. It will handle any load, is deadly accurate, has great balance and has that great CZ style. For the $2000 you are wiling to spend you could buy the pistol, a custom holster and tons of ammo and still have money left over.

Not knowing your usage, I would also vote Witness Hunter.  Very well made solid gun.  Easily handles any 10mm load.

As mentioned, +P is not a 10mm designation.  I think many people are under the impression it just means "hot loads".  In reality cartridges that do have +P and +P+ are different cartridges with different specs than their parent cartridge. For instance, 38 Special has a SAAMI pressure spec of 17,000 PSI, while 38 Special +P has a SAAMI pressure spec of 20,000 PSI.  In 45 ACP the +P rating is 2,000 PSI higher, and in 9mm Luger it is 3,500 higher.

10mm is just 37,500 PSI.  This is, incidentally one of the highest.  It is higher than 44 Mag, 41 Mag and 357 Mag.  It is exceeded by 9mm +P, 357 Maximum, 45 Win Mag and 454 Casull.  And of course the insane 460 and 500 S&W (65,000 and 60,000 respectively).

My choice (which is what I did) is pick up a Colt Delta Elite and have a ramped/fully supported bbl installed.....mine is a Clark Customs bbl.

$1200 for the gun....$300-$400 for the bbl and install.  And you can shoot Underwood all day in it. Tracy

My mistake; I should have put +P in quotes.  The intent was to state full power 10mm and not the "40 long" being passed off as 10mm...

I was actually considering the Hunter a while back until saw the Armscor 10mm long slide double stack 1911.  They are quite limited in availability so I'm reconsidering.  Tired of waiting.

I have an STI Perfect 10 and a Dan Wesson Bruin. I like them both but for different reasons. I shoot both factory and handloads through both mine with no problems thus far. I will be working up a good hunting and woods carry load for them using 200 grain WFN bullets this coming spring.

I know it's on your forbidden list - I shoot my over hot 10mm AR carbine reloads in my Glock 20L SF(upper portion all long Lone Wolf). Other than being a hugely strong sting to my hand, the gun handles the loads  fine and the brass shows no signs of overpressure. The reason I bring this option up is: Once again (same as the 2016 promise), Lone Wolf in their 2017 Catalog is promising Large Timber Wolf frames..........I still want to finish my 20L.

I built up a G20 Longslide with a slide and barrel from Lonewolf. Runs like a top. Eats everything I feed it. Relatively cheap to put together. I built it for hunting, but it's just fun as hell to shoot. I will echo the above comments regarding hot hand loads. There may or may not have been several times I've had projectiles going down that barrel much faster than anyone would consider reasonable. And never a sign of danger from components or firearms. Again, just shot. And shot accurately I might add. IMR 800X is a royal pain in the ass to work worth. But that being said, I have time and time again, gotten the highest velocity with the best accuracy, and lowest SD/ED spread. Next best being AA No 9.

The comp really helps to tame the "hot" stuff. Makes a huge difference.

I just use the stick barrel/slide for the more moderate middle of the road load and practice. Also threw a LW 40 conversion barrel in the stock slide. That's a good time.

Iver Johnson has a long slide 1911 10mm both ported and non ported, and Remington also has a 1911 long slide hunter 10mm now. They aren't double stacks, but they are reasonably priced. If you have to have a double stack I would lean towards the EAA hunter or the RIA.

One of these days the long slide Grand Power may be imported. I believe that is only a 5" one, but I may be mistaken.

I'll add my G20 long slide as well. This thing is ridiculously accurate with everything I've run through it including up to the underwood 220 grain hard cast loads.

I do wish lone wolf had left the dust cover full length like they used to. I don't like the looks of the slopes cover at all.
