Gonna buy my first Glock

No offense meant to anyone. I just don't get all the complaining about "carrying something so thick concealed". I sometimes carry my Ruger P93 IWB and I forget I have it on. The big Glocks are nothing to carry concealed, and then the 26/27/33/39 just disappear. Some people must just have sensitive skin. I'm a skinny dude, and it just isn't a problem. Those guys who have a dicky-do-belly should have no trouble at all.

Anyway, my whole point of this is, stop saying stuff like that on posts where people are new to buying Glocks. Stop discouraging them from trying for themselves, because they may be like myself (and there is plenty more like me), who just aren't sensitive. I've carried a Glock 30 at work, iwb, on 12 hour shifts. Running fork lifts, sitting, standing, walking, and driving 49 miles each way. Stop being so sensitive guys, we don't carry firearms to be dainty. A good holster is everything. Don't spend $500+ on a gun and then buy a cheap holster at Wal-Mart. I carry in a Comp-Tac M-Tac and have kydex bodies for different guns. It cost me $80. I'm going to try Alien Gear and see how they compare. I will report back on my findings.

Sorry for the rant.

Tic-Glock - well, since you called me out with that partial quote...

So, the only stuff that should be posted in response to a request for advice on Glocks is the positive stuff? No caveats or bad experiences allowed? No alternatives or contrary opinions?

They may be like you - very true, and I think it's great that you can carry the large frame Glocks - but they may just as well be like me, and all we can do is express our own experiences and opinions. For me, that opinion and experience is that thin and light is just more comfortable to carry on a daily basis. Could I carry a G29 and make it work? Probably, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't like it, and if that was my only pistol option for carry (for instance, if I could only afford one such pistol), I'd be far more likely to just leave it behind than have it on me. I carried a Ruger SR40c for several months, but even that for me was too heavy and printed too much for my personal situation.

I carry a Sig P938 in a Crossbreed on a solid gun belt, with an extra mag in my off-hand pocket. That's what works best for me to comfortably carry and confidently deep conceal every day.

"Stop being so sensitive guys" - All due respect, but how about accepting that your experience and opinion isn't any more valid than anybody else's, and drop the elitist and dismissive attitude. All anybody can do is take in as much information as possible and find the best compromise for themselves. More often than not it's the critical assessments that are most valuable; positive "reviews" are a dime a dozen in the gun industry.

"The meek shall inherit the Earth" is a mistranslation. Properly translated it would say: "Those who have swords and know how to use them, but keep them sheathed, shall inherit the Earth". Carry every day.

I really like all the view points. I live in rural OK, open is legal everywhere around here. Printing is not an issue, comfort can be. I am getting older and sitting for long periods is uncomfortable with or without a hand cannon IWB or OWB. good holsters and belts do make a huge difference. I carry a Kimber ultra in .45acp. When deep concealment is needed I throw my Mustang in my pocket. If I go into an unfamiliar or sketchy situation I would appreciate the extra firepower of 11(or more) rds of 10mm.
I cut timber around my property all the time, we have lions, and coyotes and bears(oh my lol). I really want a sort of bang around 10mm on my belt that I dont mind scratching and covering with saw dust.
The 20 seems perfect, more than likely if it's not on my belt it will be banging around in the console of my truck. The longer bbl and higher capacity will be more fun to target shoot with too. Currently that role is filled by a Colt 1991(.45acp). Used to camp in the CO rockies it was always on my side got cleaned at the end of the trip or as necessary. 2 things I never liked about it- it got heavy at times and one time I wiped out in a mud bog on my dirtbike. I was covered in black CO mud including the Colt. When I got back to camp and started getting out of my gear I thought- I wonder if this thing will fire? I checked the muzzle for obstruction and got off 2 rounds before it jammed tried to clear it but could not even get it back into battery. My buddy laughed and said I needed a Glock.

I think you'll love the G20, Shotgun.  In the field, hunting, working on friends' farms, etc. where I don't have to conceal, that's what I have on me OTW.  And, yeah, really hard to beat the full size 10mm at the range.

I never said my opinion was any more valid than yours. All I'm saying is most of the time all you see is "no no, you don't want a 29/30 for a ccw, they are like carrying a brick in your pants. Get a 26 or better a 27,the 40 has just as much power and the 26/27 is so small it will fit in your @$$ Crack.

Went to a pawn/gun shop today, they had a new 20 (650otd) a bit more than I wanted to spend, but felt great. They also had a 27, guy said it was same size as a 29(I thought the 29 was a little bigger), I did not like it near as well. What is SF? Guy said if I was gonna carry the 20, I might should look into one.  GS coming up in a few weeks, hopefully pick up a nice used 20 or find a dealer that wants to negotiate a little. I might not wait, the pawn star said he takes trades and I have a few things just taking up space in the safe.

The 29&30 is bigger than the 26/27/33/39,but length & height smaller than the 19/23/32/38. The 20/21/29/30/37/38/39 have a wider slide than the others.

SF= Slim Frame or Short Frame and is offered on the 20/21/29/30. It means the distance from the front of the grip to the back strap is smaller. It allows some folks to get a better hold on the large frame Glocks. If you have big hands, you may not need it. I don't "need" one, as I have slim, long fingers, but I prefer the feel of the SF. You need to try them side by side to find what you like best, in other words, what feels natural to you.

$650 sounds to be on the high side. Was it a Gen 3 or Gen 4 though? Gen 3's should go for $510 - $535, and Gen 4's should go for $540-$575. This has been MY experience, may vary by area. My 29SF was $550 OTD with NC's high tax rate (7.5%).

Hope this helps :-)

9.6% here(yikes). Sad story about shipping costs and 10mm being hard to get. Now I want to check out SF and an actual 29. I liked the bulky feel of that gen4(I like my Desert Eagle too lol), but I might like the slim even better. I was hoping to find one around 5-550, OK does not require transfer tax/paperwork on private sales which saves 10-15 bucks. But finding a used 10mm seems a challenge. guess nobody wants to part with em. Thank you for all the information everyone- the quest goes on.

You will fall in love with the feel of the 29. Perfectly sized hand cannon.

Olgo

How powerful is 10mm? Well, see those craters on the moon?

Overkill338

Very nice Olgo!  Is that a 4.5" or 5" barrel?

Very cool. Throw an x-grip on it and use it for open carry!

That is cool! No fitting just drop in?

Overkill338

As far as I know, all the barrels are drop in. I know the LoneWolf's are. I want a 6" for my 29.
