I haven't shot a deer with a 10mm, but I have shot many of them with a 45acp and 230 grain bullets with nearly identical sectional density.

The 45, with an XTP, will punch though both shoulders just fine... Even from a short barrel (850 fps).

I'd bet a week's pay the 10 with a 200 XTP will do the same, at least most of the time.

I have used hardcast, Hornady hap and xtp and Sierra. They all went through. I have used 165 through 200 grains.

10mm will blast through both shoulders of a deer at 50 yards with a 200 grain XTP all day.

If they don't drop right there, they usually plow shoulders down for about 20 yards and done.

This is from a long slide G20 with hand loads at 1200fps.

Heavier bullets tend to fare better in the "deep woods". At close range, lighter bullets may work but penetration is what will arrange for the projectile to reach the vitals.
