New RIA jamming and deforming casings

Get a brand new RIA Tactical and it shot great for about 4 rounds. Jamming due to mis feeds and deforming casings. Tried two diffrent types of ammo same deal. Guess call to RIA on Monday and hope customer service is good.

Sad part is great looking gun and when did fire shots dead on. Oh well my luck.

When you load the magazine do you tap it to set the rounds to the rear?
What type of jamb are you seeing?  Not going fully into battery?  Fired case stuck/trapped in ejection port? What ammo was tested?

Had both stove pipes and failure to go into battery. Shot both arms or and Sig with same issue. Tore it down and found metal shavings from slide.  Casing were dented and some crimped.
Called RIA today and they didn't even discuss solutions just sent me FedEx slip so must be a problem with the batch this came from. Bad part is won't be back for hunting season 3 to 4 weeks once it hits factory. Questioning my purchase now.

Problem is insufficient extractor tension.  Been there:



If you know how to adjust the tension on the extractor, then do so and test fire again.  If your problem is solved, then you can cancel the pickup.

I don't have a trigger pull gauge.  I just shake the slide.  Less scientific, but it worked for me.

Thats the same way my brass looked like from my Kimber 10mm. Sent the Gun in and they had it for 6 weeks but it now runs great!!

Frustrating when you buy something and then have to send back to get fixed. Where has quality and pride in product go.

You can still have it.

However, your RIA was several hundred dollars cheaper than the next nearest 1911 in 10mm.  And it is made from comparable quality parts.  That savings came from somewhere, and it was in the quality of some of the fitting.

Now you know what you are paying for in an STI or a Dan Wesson.  Personally, I tinker enough that it is money saved for me.  But not the same for everyone.

Hit the nail on the head.

When someone asks me about an RIA 10mm, I ask if they are willing to learn the ins and outs of a 1911 and work on it to get it running smooth, or are they gonna be frustrated if it doesn't work out of the box.

If they aren't willing to work on it, I suggest they save their money and spend it on a higher end pistol.

My RIA works wonderful after a fair number of tweaks and a few replacement parts to get it running right. Out of the box I couldn't get through a mag without issues. It just surpassed the thousand round mark without an issue a few weeks ago.

Don't be afraid to send it back in to RIA, I have heard many great things about their customer service in addition to my own experience with them.

If you do some searching around here, I list all the items it took to get mine running smooth. There are some others who have also given great advice to get these pistols running like champs.

I like RIA guns.  They're a great option for the money, but you have to be prepared to experience failures early on, and understand that you will be sending it back to them for service.  If you can buy it knowing this, then you'll be rewarded with a very nice piece, as they usually return from the factory functioning perfectly...

Have to agree with all. Got mine back today in time for hunting season. They sent a new gun that ran two magazines with no issues. I thought customer service was leading me on when they said would expedite for hunting season. Feeling better now.
