Hi guys, new to 10mm and new to reloading (with exception of shotgun).... infact, just got back from shooting 20 rounds that I reloaded earlier today.  I just purchased an RIA 1911 in 10mm bull barreled for possibly hunting.  Since I am reloading, I was curious as to some recipes or even general data on hunting rounds.  I will be hunting Hog-fairly small in Management areas, and if I see a coyote I'll take a shot.  I'm thinking a lighter bullet, faster speed would possibly go right through a coyote-killing but not tearing up hide, but in a hog have enough kinetic energy to kill em.

Any thoughts?  I know.... trying to kill a 20lb coyote and 150lb hog in one type of round sounds ridiculous, but maybe not?

Thanks!!

if you use a FMJ or hard cast FP bullet it will work o.k. for either animal. if you want a H.P. bullet, an XTP would not damage the pelt much either. they hold together and give good penetration. on a hog, penetration is what I look for in a handgun hunting round. I have killed a few hogs with handguns but not with my 10mm yet.  my load is a 200 gr Hornandy XTP HP or a 200gr. plated F.P. bullet over 9.4grs of Blue Dot.

165gr will stop a hog.   GDHP or Flat Point running around 1250fps.

Thanks for the replis guys!! Seems like I bought the wrong bullets all together, haha!!  I just loaded some Speer Gold HP 155 Grn and 180 JHP with Blue Dot-at least I got the powder right!

The GDHP 155 was over 11.8 grns Blue Dot, about 1250 fps, fun light load... lots of flash!!  I use alot of Red Dot in shotshells, seems like Blue is the same when it comes to black residue left on cases...

I forgot to ask, blaster, what's the fps on that load with 200 bullet over 9.4 blue dot?  Curious because today's load I made was 180 JHP over 9.5 Blue Dot

My guns will handle 10.5 grains of Blue Dot under the Hornady 200gr XTP seated at 1.252" with 350 CCI  1220 from my S&W1006

the book says 1150 fps. the only chronograph I have that is working is one that attaches to a fixed barrel (Magnetospeed bayonet mount) and I can't figure out how to get it to work on a pistol with a moving slide. I need to get my Chrony fixed so I can get some real data but for now I'm going by the book. I would guess that your load is going 1200+ fps. but only a chronograph will tell.

Yeah, about 1200 I think is what the book says, maybe tad more.  I don't have a chronograph either, maybe down the road.  Right now I have been just sticking to the "middle of the road" loads.  My 10mm is ramped and bull barrel, so I would think can actually handle a bit more, but I'm not interested in Max, not in my shottys (I've loaded alot for) or pistol.  I think too many people get obsessed with speed and building cannons, if I wanted more, I'd have bought a different caliber.  10mm even in mild seems to be world's better than 45ACP-normal, in trajectory and ballistics, but small enough to be worth while in hunting/self defense, etc.

MagnetoSpeed V3 has an attachment for a Picatinny rail, blaster.  I use a MS on a CZ P01

Picatinny rail for the bottom of the barrel?  Or ontop?  My RIA Tac has a rail an the frame-under the barrel

This was during my "build".  Wooden dowels shows WHY I has shooting a groove into the front 3" of the MS.  I added a few shims under the MS adapter plate....and have had zero problems since
