...built an aluminum frame Commander in 10mm. I don't think any are available commercially but was wondering if anyone has built a gun for themselves.

Have been carrying a Commander in .38 Super since 1980 and have thought about buying a Fusion slide and barrel and fit it to one of the frames. The ejector is in the same place so little work should be involved.

My only concern would be the battering the lighter and shorter (length) frame would take from the 10mm round. I have built a full sized steel frame 1911 in 10mm and I have seen no issues but the alloy frame would concern me.

A flat bottom firing pin stop and a heavy hammer spring would be highly advised in that set up.  With a flat bottom stop and a 27 lb main spring I would think you could run standard recoil springs and bot batter the frame any worse than a 45 ACP +P.

I would probably not run nuclear loads any more than needed to verify function.  Loads at the lighter end of the spectrum would be indicated for practice, just like a 357 air weight revolver.
