Adjustable rear sights

Hi, All,
The 10 mm. Delta Elite, and the .38 Super, pistols are more suitable to use for longer distance hunting, Target, and working up handloads with, than  most non target 1911 semi autos. therefore an adjustable rear sight seems like a suitable accessory to add to one of them. I always try to add accessories to my firearms, that can be removed, and be able to put the firearm back into stock configuration. Thus I am looking into using one of the low profile, adjustable, rear sights offered by the Italian firm, named LPA sights. They work with the standard front sight on Colt 1911 pistols. I am using several that were offered for sale by the Pachmayr Co. many years ago. I am sure that they are the same sights, made in Italy, offered under their own name, LPA. I still have a couple of the old Pachmayr offerings, but am a little too dumb to find out, on the internet whether I can use them for what I want them for, or what ones to buy.  I could drive the stationary stock sights out of the pistols that I want to replace the sights on, and try them, but would rather rely on the experts on this forum for advice, and answers, before I remove the stock sights. The pistols that I would like to replace the rear sights on are an early Colt Delta Elite, and a 1990 .38 Colt Super Commander. Any advice or help on this matter?

I have adjustable sights on about half my handguns.

After dialing them in I have never touched them.

I have never observed anyone adjusting sights on a handgun at the range to compensate for distance.  Only for initial sight regulation.

Decide what range you want them regulated for, and have a good gunsmith install and regulate fixed sights to that distance.  My 2ยข

I have "LPA style" sights on my RIA 1911, I like them a lot, I think they're just knock offs of the real LPA's.  Once sighted in, just like above reply, I never touch them.  If you know the ballistics of your bullet, you should be able to easily compensate for it at different yardage.  My 1911 is a 10mm, and most 10mm trajectory charts- I've seen-granted there aren't many on the net-show less than an inch drop at 50 yards.  In fact this was the main reason I bought a 10mm over the 45acp.  Seems good enough for hunting, but not too sure what you'd like to do with the guns, and how far.

If you get LPA's, I have read that they are a PAIN in adjusting elevation, and I ran into the same thing.  All I can say is read forums on adjusting them and USE THE RIGHT SIZE SCREWDRIVER TO ADJUST IT!!!!!!  I almost messed mine up by using a screwdriver that was too small, you don't want to strip it!!
