Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

Up to 1200yrd 284 Win. All 3 of my F-Open guns are284 Win; 162 Amax w/ H4831SC, 30" barrels (Brux), Sightron 36x BR scopes. We shoot weekly at 1000yrd and about once a month at 1200yrd. My last barrel lost competive accuracy at 2013 rounds so I retired it to the 600yrd gun. Since we shoot about 1500-2000 rounds per year in practice the magnums would be cost prohibitive.

Shadow, you may want to try the SMK 190,200,210 weights or the 200+ Amax. They seem to work great at the longer ranges for targets.

Dennis, thanks for the advise.  I don't normally shoot to those distances and hunting was more of my needs for the '06 rifles.
I have a few rounds loaded in 180 & 200 so those are not out of the question and I'll have a look at the SMK lineup in the mean time.
The "long" range in my area never did open yet so finding a place to enjoy the distance shooting to those distances will have to wait awhile.

Wade,
Berger makes some heavy 30cal bullets for hunting. Expensive but highly accurate and very high BC. A friend uses them in his '06 for hunting out west (pronghorns, mulies, etc) and swears that they are at least a full MOA better than the average "hunting" bullets he has tested.

I run a Remington 700 PSS in 300 win mag.  It is topped with a Bushnell Elite 10X40 mil-dot scope and has a Harris bipod.  I can ring the 600 yard 18" gong all day if I do my part.

I have been running 180 BTHP but am thinking of trying some heavier slugs.

Edit...wow, zombie thread.  I guess i have posted this before.

My current long range set up is limited out (as far as accuracy) at about 650yds. It is a .308 optimized with 168 grain. It spreads out and begins to yaw and eventually tumble going out to 1,000. I do have some 175 grain that do better as far as holding a pattern at that distance. I can still get within 3.5' MOA at the 1,000yd mark (yes I meant to put the ' sign after the 3.5, not "). The 168 grain in my set up just won't quite do it. I do have a 300 Weatherby Mag that will reach out there better, but it isn't fun to shoot after about 5 rounds. I'm not a recoil wimp, but it is a mule.
