So I stumbled into one of the LGS and noticed that they had a 45 shield. Having my 45c on me I was interested to see the difference in person. Being a collector of 45acp guns (next to 10mm of course) I decided I had to have it.  ;D

Once I got it home, I noticed some flaws. One can tell smith and wesson took shortcuts with this pistol compared to my 45c. That said my 45c is 6 years old now, so maybe they had to cut back and save some on manufacturing. Lots of toolmarks on this shield some more pronounced than others. Finish isn't nearly as nice or durable as my 45c either. I already have a spot of holster wear. Compare that with my 45c with has been carried for nearly 6 years and has all of one sharp spot that is slightly discolored.

Sizes between the two don't seem like much of a difference on a spec sheet other than barrel length, but they really thinned this thing down. I was pleasantly surprised to see comptac makes kydex shells for my mtac for the shield 45. Something that downright surprised me since they still don't offer any for the 45 mod2.

I love the new grip in the hands, but I hate it when I holser it IWB. I'll have to get a hogue sleeve or something like that to cover the grip cause an undershirt in the florida heat just isn't an option.

The first 50 rounds were flawless, and when I did my part, I was able to keep a nice tight group at 25 yards. When I start sending them down range a bit faster they start drifting to the left, so I need some practice with it. The part that I can't wrap my mind around...my 45c which is heavier and thicker has more recoil and punishes the hand more than the shield 45.

Im feeling good about this pistol, it just needs to prove itself flawless over a couple hundred rounds before I trust it as much as my 45c. Then it can become a summer carry item where I prefer a lighter smaller pistol that is easier to hide. In the winter I'll go back to my 45c or Commander size 10mm.

The Shield list price is about $150 less than the 45C.

Makes sense then, I really hadn't priced another 45c. Mine was just a hair under $600 when I bought it, I just kinda figured they dropped in price since I got mine due to additional competition.

I think I am gonna send the slide off to be coated with nickel boron. During that process I am gonna have them clean up the worst tool marks on the bottom of the slide. If possible, I'll have them coat the frame rails too since that's the only place on my 45c that has any real wear.
