It always feels weird getting higher readings than what Glocks give but I do my normal .22LR control when setting up. I also usually do at least one retest so I know I'm getting ballpark. In this case I did the 220's and .44 Magnum American Eagles again. Both are real close to previous tests and the XD has been consitent giving higher 9mm readings than the Glock tests. Sometimes guns are freaks  ;D

Did you mix up the 115 and 124gr numbers? That 124gr load is advertised for 1300 fps. It does 1320 avg in my G19.

In Kevin's 9's I got:

115 +P 1352
115 +P+... call it 1490 but I did have a couple eclipse 1500.
124 +P+ 1429
147 +P+ 1230

Oh I see what you are saying.

Mr.Redbull's data:

115gr +P 1332. XD 20 FPS more
115gr +P+ 1404. XD 86 FPS more
124gr +P+ 1320. XD 109 FPS more
147gr +P+ 1182. XD 48 FPS more

Freaky XD!

If you really got 1429 fps with that 124 +P+ load, and it's not a data mixup (which it really looks like), you should probably ask Kevin Underwood what he thinks of your 4" barrel shooting those 130 fps faster than advertised. That's not within the normal variance between different guns, that indicates a serious difference in the load itself.

It's about what I would expect based on the 115 +P+ I did, not once but twice because nobody believed I got almost a 1500 FPS average out of them. The +P 115's look right too and so do the 147's. I don't think it's the ammo because it tested lower in a Glock. I just have gotten some crazy numbers out of this XD but do the controls and retests all the time. They come in so I have to think I just have a freak of an XD. Let me check some DoubleTap numbers for that recent test I did to see how much higher I got.

Intercooler

On the left is G19 and my XD right with the difference noted.

DoubleTap 115 +P 1277 1370 = 93 FPS
DoubleTap 124 +P 1238 1315 = 77 FPS
Buffalo Bore 115 +P 1237 1334 = 97 FPS
Buffalo Bore 124 +P 1170 1266 = 96 FPS
Buffalo Bore 124 +P+ 1267 1345 = 78 FPS
Buffalo Bore 147 +P+ 1106 1188 = 82 FPS

All were out of the same lots/boxes of ammo. That looks darn repeatable really in the 80-95 FPS range faster. Don't have a clue why but maybe some will want the XD barrel  ;D I have two old DoubleTap .357's I shot years ago (2 years at least) 125gr and 158gr Gold Dots. I'm going to run them again this week to see if I get the same numbers again. I do it real often with the ammos I have been for a while so I don't think their is any shift. Also when I did the PPU 158gr 9mm's they went below 1000 FPS (980 something) like they should although they are just rated subsonic.

Intercooler

I try to compare numbers with others as often as possible too. Mr.Redbull put up his 220 numbers which I think he uses a Prochrono:

UW 220gr hard cast
G29 3.8 SLB - 1133 1161 1173 1151 - avg 1155
G20 4.6LWD - 1206 1232 1217 1189 1184  - avg 1206
G20LS 6.6LWD - 1271 1266 1278 1235  avg 1263
G20 4.6barsto - 1202 1195 - avg 1199

He got 1206 out of the 220's. This is my second test of them first was 1201 I think and today was 1211 average. We seem to match up pretty good.

Another XD owner is getting crazy high numbers too trying to work up a load with Power Pistol.

Can I pull the bullet on one of these +P+ 115's without putting an eye out  :D

I wanted to take a picture and weigh the charge to see how it compares to his 6.9 grains.

I would slug both barrels.  I bet you will find the XD barrel is a fair bit tighter.  Tighter = higher pressure = more velocity.

Great article in handloader about pressure this issue.  That is one of the big points they make.  Pressure barrels typically are a couple thousandths under spec to create a margin of error for even the tightest barrel.  And that is often why the velocities advertized by big ammo and reloading mfg's can't be reached by mere mortals.

The_Shadow

Intercooler, thanks for the link and picture you posted over there.  The powder does look more like LongShot than Power Pistol.  The numbers he was seeing using power Pistol is above the 6.6 grains of PP that I normally load and shoot in the 9mm @ 1235 fps adv. from the Ruger P85.

I will have to load some working up to the charge weights mentioned...however as I have stated before the limitations will be by exceeding the bullet's design performance velocity.  In other words they can go frag-nasty and/or roll back beyond the maximum expansion diameter.

It just seems crazy I am getting these numbers out of the XD but then again the subsonic stuff went 847 so I can't say the Chrony is 100 FPS high. I'm going back again to do some Chronograph stuff and the Dawson rear sight has made the XD just a joy to shoot. I still have some of those Underwood 115's that went 1500. My plan was to do those again and a couple of known rounds too. I also have 4 Winchester Silvertips I was thinking about shooting again. You think I should launch those out of the 1006 this time? I seemed to have gotten higher numbers out of my Match than people using Glocks and thought this would be another good data point.
When the Parabellum stuff shows up I will do that too and see what the rest of the line gives. I'm tore on whether to do them out of the Match or 1006 as well. I just put the light-weight firing pin in the Match so I need to see what it changes at some point. My hope is better strikes and total elimination of the Crow's foot. It was almost gone but not perfect before.
