I may be a Glock fanboy, but I'm probably a 10mm fanboy also.  ;D
While I would love a nice 1911 10mm, I can't afford it. I could probably have my G29sf, and a G40 for what a reliable 1911 10mm will cost(I may be way off, haven't priced too many 1911 10mm's). I like the 1911 platform, but until my money tree starts producing money I'll be playing with my G29sf for awhile.

Check out the tangfoglio line. Most are well under what a "nice" 1911 will cost. Gives you that steel gun shootability and holds near double the rounds.

here are the 10mm guns I own in "best" order

1) P220
2) RMW Extreme AR
3) Glock 29
4) Witness Limited
5) Glock 40
6) Glock 20
7) RI Tac II

Only the RI had to go back for an extractor that was bent. They also sent me 9 mm slide stop. After I had my gunsmith rework this gun it has reliable
#2 and #7 Reliability is very dependent on the magazines.
#2 is QC10 glock magazine version

The order in which I purchased them are

1) RI Tac II
2) witness match - sold
3) Witness Limited
4) Glock 29
5) RMW Extreme AR
6) Glock 40
7) Glock 20 - purchase slide by itself first, purchased a Glock 41 MOS, then sold the Glock 41 slide, kept the frame
8) P220 SAO

Well, the original post doesn't state a purpose, range, cc, home defense, or hunting.  That makes it impossible to answer.

As to reliable...

My Tanfoglio Limited Pro is fool proof with any ammo, and can handle hotter loads than my Glock.  Its heavy to carry, but is far and away my favorite range 10mm.

The G20 gave me problems early on, but in stock configuration, it is reliable with most ammo.  Weight is less of an issue, but I don't like the idea of a fairly light trigger without a positive safety for carry.  The ugly thing does shoot through any degree of abuse, dirt, grime, and deserves its shout out for that.  I do carry outside the waist band as a back-up while hunting, but normally with an empty chamber.

The Tanfoglio compact steel is not, and has not been reliable to carry.  The 12 round magazines suck, but if it were reliable, it would be carried alot.  I like the pistol, but it is frustration when it fails to run.

That's the off the shelf 10mm handguns I've had and my ranking them.  The 10mm offerings for carry are too limited IMHO, and my primary carry is a 9mm CZ RAMI because of that.  Love the little thing, and I wish CZ would also chamber 10mm as an option.

I can only rank the three 10's I own... EAA Hunter, RIA and P220 SIG.

My favorite to shoot is the Hunter. All I have done to it is to install a Wolf recoil spring

The SIG screams quality build but I don't grab it to shoot much.. not sure why... possibly the trigger. I did install a Gray Guns spring kit and I like the trigger better but its still not a gun I love to shoot.. strange.

The RIA is my second favorite to shoot.. however I did the trigger... went to a 22 LB recoil spring.. installed a flat firing pin stop and a heavier main spring so its not stock. I also had to do some grinding the prevent the slide from locking back before the last round. Now its a sweet gun!

I disagree, if you read the OP, you most certainly CAN answer his question.
I stick with the G20, as I previously stated, although so far, this tanfoglio I recently purchased is a riot.

Glock fanboy here. Tool or not.  :))

Next on the list is a Smith 1000 series.

I might pick the Sig, but the problems my agency is having with the 229 right now cause me to take a step back.

sstewart

Wow my legion 229 in 40 is my edc. And I really like it.
All my Sig's have been just as reliable as my Glocks.

My take is this when most MFG bailed on the 10 mm two companies kept on producing them;

EAA and Glock

These two take the prize. The Glock model 20 is an out standing gun then add in the the 29 and the great hunting rig Glock MOS Model 40. Virtues of the EAA are well known and they like Glock kept on producing a number versions and for the most part these two Companies kept the 10mm alive with affordable reliable and accurate handguns.

Well said. I never thought of it that way but you are absolutely correct.
I bought glocks years ago but always wondered about the tanfoglio models until just recently.
Damn, I love my new limited pro...  Russ

Thanks the offering are abound now and it is very subjective.

Self defense I love Springfield 1911 and I have a custom RIA from Reeder that shoots anything I feed it and it is very accurate. But given the task of Hunting and woods carry I always reach for the new MOS model 40 or my Model 20 SF .

So ranking the guns is such subjective opinion and although is interesting, it is very self serving.  :D :D :D :D

We are all biased by our experiences. So our rankings are biased, but valid. Bounded in that we don't know what we don't know.

I own several handguns   when it comes  to the 10mm like many on here I have a soft spot/love relationship with it.
Of my 10mm  I own  I rate them as follows:
Kimber TLE  it's reliable  great sights and accurate, but limited on capacity
EEA tangfoglio great gun fits my hands decent capacity
Glock 20 my goto hiking  packing  all around outdoor gun I lightened the trigger a bit  BIG grip decent shooter but the two above are more accurate in my hands.
Glock 29 put it in my front Hoodie pocket  and read the statement above  its not really a compact but not a full size bought it on a whim and often wonder why
S&W 610 fun reliable wheel gun limited on capacity  but easily loads unloads and shoots 40 easily  with moon clips
RIA standard in 1911  love it but was the only one I had an issue with  factory put the wrong recoil  spring in it they quickly sent me a new one within two days it arrived . Great value for the  money

I shoot them all as much as I can prefer the 1911 platform  but as I stated the tangfoglio fits best in my hand. I've ta k end two deer with the glock 20 and was very impressed and living in Nw Colorado I hike alot in areas where bear cougars and two legged predators are present. I usallycarry the glock 20 most due to capacity and the durable finish .though I don't feel under gunned with any of them.

Let me throw the Tang hat in here  ;) ;)

It's one of the few that you can basically say will run it all right out of the box. No barrel swaps, etc... Besides that you aren't really cool until you have at least three  :o

Oh damn, back in High School again. According to Intercooler, I am not cool at all :)
