Hello,
at the beginning I was interested in the new Glock 40 because of the 6" barrel. But after having read several EAA/Tanfoglio topics here at this forum, I have to say, that I would like to go with the Tanfoglio Gold Match.
I asked a gunsmith for changing the SA trigger to a DA/SA trigger and he told me it is no prolem to change it.

The only point I am unsure with, is the coating. Personaly I am not a fan of coatings.
So I asked the gunsmith again. He told me there are several options: Chrome, blued,  TiAlN- and TiCN- coatings. (TiAlN- and TiCN- coatings are custom coatings)

I think blued is not realy an option, my rifles are blued and the need a lot of love not to get rusty...

Could please anybody share his experience with the coatings from EAA/Tanfoglio?

I am intrested in how durable the coatings are.
At the postitions where the coating is scratched: becomes the gun fast rusty?
Is it possible to refurbish the coating?

Many thanks.

The only experience I have with coatings is the Robar NP3, I have it on a Marlin guide gun 45-70 lever action. It's tough as nails and slick as ice. It's been through 4 years of hunting and weather, not a mark on it, certainly no rust. It's guaranteed for life and if it chips, flakes. wears off, or fails in any way they will refinish it for free. Check them out at Robar guns. They do Glocks, 1911's and any other pistol or rifle you might want coated.
Hope that helps Wolfgang. I'm sure some others will chime in with other options, but go to Robar guns web site and check them out, you'll be impressed.

I have a Witness full size steel with the "Wonder Coat" finish. it is a dull silver. looks like brushed stainless steel or the electrolis nickel on my Colt 1911. so far it seems to be holding up good. and I am not gentile with my tools. Tangefolio has a varied price & feature line up of pistols so I'm not sure if all the finishes are the same throughout the line up. I have heard the blue jobs that Tangefolio does are easily rusted. at least on the lower priced models. but I don't have any first hand experience with them.

My full size wonder finish eventually rusted.  Took about three years.  I sand blasted it, then parked the bare steel and cerakoted it black.  It has been very solid since.  It was a day job and the finish is holding up fine.  It has been several years.

I did a thread on the process here in the gun smithing section.  If I was at home on a computer I would look it up, but I am traveling and on a tablet so you will have to search.  Sorry.

@jbaker30: thanks for the link, that`s the way to go, if the gun coating is gone...

@blaster: the "wonder coating" seems to be the hard chrome coating, right?

@sqlbullet: if you find the link to this thread, it would be perfect  :D ...but no hurry...

thanks,

Wolfgang

sqlbullet, thanks for the link.
Great work! To be honest, I can not get it over the heart to take a new gun and sand blast it... ...apart from that I am the master of disaster with paint  ::)

Does anybody has experience in TiAlN- and TiCN-coatings?

Thanks.

"wonder coat" looks like some kind of plating but I don't know. its hard to tell what some of these new finishes are made of unless you applied them. if mine ever gets rusted or starts to look bad I will just Dura Coat it. I have done a bunch of my guns & some for friends with Dura Coat. its easy to apply and now comes in aerosol cans so its even easier. I am not that concerned with how pretty my guns are, just as long as they function properly is all that matters to me.

What exactly are you doing? Most all the coatings hold up just fine if you do your part. I'm still running my Hunter with the factory black coated slide. If you get any pistol in Hard Chrome it holds up great! Get a Stock III or Limited Pro... even a Hunter and enjoy.

These guys performed the make-over on my Hunter. It's a cut above the factory Chrome job and they did outstanding work! They do all the coatings as well...

I have the Elite Match. The stainless or chrome plated frame has been great but the blued slide rusted a couple of times. I took the slide all the way down, sanded, degreased and painted it in olive drab gun Kote. No more rust issues and I like the look.

Hello,
as I understand EAA provides blued, chromed and so called "wonder finished" guns.
I am not able to see this "wonder finish" on the official Tanfoglio website...
Does anybody now what this "wonder finish" is? Is it like Tenifer/Melonite? How resistant is this finish against wear and rust?

Many thanks

Wolfgang

I also have the full-size in the wonder finish. It is much better than their blueing but it is a far, far cry from the protection of melonite. I don't have scratches but I have little rust spots in areas that are quite hard to scrub out. Honestly don't know how to get them all out. Don't really want to sand it but maybe. Could be another gun Kote job for me.

It is tennifer like, but not the same.  Mine held up OK for the first year or two of EDC.  But on a camping trip where it didn't leave the holster for a week, it rusted through.  That is what prompted me to do the parkerize/cerakote I linked to above.

Does anybody know what finish the Tanfoglio Combat has?
I have read at another website, that this should be melonite. Could somebody confirm this?
