Bought the Lyman 525 grain Slug mold and started casting some to test with.
Here is a look at the first casings to test with, Purdy Pellets... ;D

First test loadings to see where I'm at with them...

Well I got a chance to test the Lyman Slug and the Buckshot loads today...

Federal Game/Field Hull (Short Brass)(8 segment crimp)
Lyman 525 grain Slug (12 Gauge Hollow Base - Sabot Slug (12ga Sabot) - #SC12)
Red Wad (with two cushions cut out, cut off disk placed in above piston)
Blue Dot 38.0 grains
CCI 209 Velocity was 1155 fps

RIO Blue Hull (Extra Long Brass)(6 segment crimp)
Lyman 525 grain Slug (12 Gauge Hollow Base - Sabot Slug (12ga Sabot) - #SC12)
Red Wad (with two cushions cut out, cut off disk placed in above piston)
Blue Dot 44.0 grains
CCI 209 Velocity was 1425 fps (Perfect)

Un-Modified Clay Buster red wads

Modified Clay Buster red wads where two cushion segments removed and dish as loaded.

Did recover some wads and some had petals pulled or torn off, did have a fair amount of dimple into the Hollow Base.

12 Gauge 2 ¾" #00 Buck Shot

Federal Plastic using Remington RP12 Wad
#00 - 10BuckShot stacked two x two weight 1.1925 oz.
35.0 grains of Blue Dot
Winchester 209 primer
Velocity was 1080 fps

#4 Buckshot
35.0 grains Blue Dot
Velocity was 1155 fps

Duplex load 00 Buck and #4Buck
35.0 grains Blue Dot
Velocity was 1100 (crimp not the best)-1250 fps (this one was tighter and that helped)

Overall I was happy with the testing.

Overkill338

2400 ft/lbs. Not too shabby at all. I love a 12 gauge, will probably always be my favorite weapon. That or it plays a close 2nd to a 338 Win Mag. Just something about hitting a deer broad side at 200+ yards and watching them drop in their tracks.
