Hi guys
I am in the market for a good 200+gr WFN /WFNGC mold.
Or a source on similar boolits. Anyone have a favorite they would recommend?
I currently own a RCBS 200Gr mold, but I am looking for something with a wider nose geared more towards hunting. I recently acquired a nice 10mm 1911 that will accompany me on hunting trips for deer and hog.
If anyone would like to sell me a sample pack of this type of projectile  I would love to try a few different types just to make my purchase a lil easier 😁 . Btw awesome sight here wished I would have found it sooner!

NOE has lots of options both with and without gas check.  Best of all, they offer up to five cavity molds, so you can really get some volume going.

I'll have to check them out! I prefer a plain base myself!

I have a 403-200 WFN PB with optional HP pins from them  Great mold.  Love the option to cast either a hollow point (180) or a wfn (200).

54Shooter, just understand as the nose gets wider you may need to seat to a shorter COAL to help with the tipping angle of the cartridge as it feeds to the chamber.  1.2420" is what I measured on the DT as loaded with the WFN.

The 200 wfn NOE mould is awesome. I use it in 40 and 10mm.

Sgl How wide is the nose your mom casts? Could you post pics?
I really like the idea of having the option of hps to.

The schematic gives you good numbers.  Here is a pic I took some time back:

This is obviously with the HP pins installed. Sorry for the potato quality.  I would take a better one but I am in India and the bullets are in Utah.

Those look great!!
Does anyone sell those or are they only available if you cast?
I think they would suffice for hunting. Have you shot anything with them?

Just paper.  I don't hunt, so next on the list for me would be ballistics gel, but I haven't had time.

Beartooth bullets have the absolute best, for commercially available heavy cast bullets (not to be confused with "hard cast", which is a misused term, and rarely ideal for hunting). They offer custom sizing, so slug your barrel and do it right. If you are set on lead, this is the best option (and the only real option, IMO). They are expensive by comparison, but how many will you be shooting, if they are in fact, for hunting?

I have Mihec mound with all the pins it casts some real nice bullets I purchased it through the group buy at Castboolits.com

I loaded some tonight and ran them over the chronograph. The load was 8.2 grains of Longshot CCI300 primer. The bullets weighed right in at 200 Grains. From my Model 40 Glock I was averaging 1275 FPS with Standard deviation of 14 FPS .

This last summer did some shooting into water soaked news print with the HP version the damage was ubstantial with the wad cutter portion driving 16" deep. The first 6" was a substantial disruption of the test media showing a really good wound channel.

Another possible option if you don't mind coming down a few grains in bullet weight and losing the gas check is the Montana Bullet Works 190 grain FN from a Saeco mold. They have it listed under 38-40 bullets. The meplat measures .300 vs Beartooth's meplat of .310. I may try em myself in my G40 and STI Perfect 10.

I suspect the Montana Bullet Works bullets would be more consistent in weight than Beartooth's for two reasons.

1. They cull their bullets by weight according to their website.

2. I recently weighed 25 .430 Beartooth 250 grain WFNGC bullets, 25 .430 240 grain WFNGC bullets from Montana Bullet Works and 25 .430 255 grain Cast Performance bullets.

Here's how they fared in weight consistency from lightest to heaviest bullet in the 25 bullet samples:

250 Beartooth 4 grains
240 Montana Bullet Works 1.6 grains
255 Cast Performance 4.9 grains

I suspect the Montana Bullet Works bullets have the greatest potential for best accuracy because they are so close in weight. Hard to say for sure until you shoot em downrange though.
