Hi gentlemen,

My friend and I bought a bunch of 10mm brass from a guy in AK.  I'm new to 10mm, so I wanted to see what brass I have as it's mixed brass.  I am hoping you guys can identify the brass and tell me if it's GTG or junk.

I'm in a time crunch, so I can take pictures of the headstamp later.

PPU is Privi correct?  I've read where is't not great, brass, so I'm thinking I'd use it for hunting loads since I won't be concerned with brass pick up once I fire it round.

JAG headstamp?

A USA?

DT i'm assuming is double tap

Underwood

RP=Remington?

FC=Federal

PMC how is this brass

HPR?

Hornady

Sig

two * I'm assuming id starline?

Mcnett?

ELD?
Norma...didn't knoe they made 10mm brass.

Most of it is brass, but I have some nickle cases as well. I'm seeing a lot of that A USA brass, so I'm hoping it's decent brass.

JAG = Jagermann.  Good stuff.

Last I knew, DT (DoubleTap), Underwood were actually starline brass.

I have a good bit of RP and FC.  Never had any issues with them, and yes, I think Remington and Federal.

I have read Hornady is good brass, and it seems like I read that SIG was using JAG brass with SIG's headstamp.  Again no concerns.

McNett is going to be Mike McNett of DoubleTap.  See above.

PMC, PPU, A USA, ELD are all new to me.  I mean, I recognize PMC and PPU, but I have no experience with the brass.

A USA is one headlamp that I toss. Starline is tops. I've also used RP, Win, PMC, Double Tap, Fed,, and Winchester.  All good. Double Tap and McNett is likely Starline, and I read somewhere that Hornady 10mm brass is Starline too.

Darn it...I have a lot of that A USA brass and PPU...I"ve read the PPU isn't great.  Was hoping A USA was going to be ok as it seems that I have a lot of that brass.

Thanks for the input...I'm hoping to hear more as I had no idea so many companies even offered 10mm brass.

Many of the ammo companies contract with Starline and have their own headstamps run for their own stuff.

JAG is Jagemann and their product has bee good quality...

A-USA is so so and PPU can be hit or miss, problematic as we have found some to blow out, but also where they would not hold a resized dimension to hold a bullet securely.  I did a quick and dirty annealing once to soften the cases and they held their resize afterwards.  INSPECTION and Observation are in order to check for bullet to case neck tension.

Would you say PPU and A USA brass would be alright for using for hunting loads and say SHTF?  I'd probably just load them for one time usage.

For me,

PPU goes in the scrap bucket.  I was one of the ones who tried to load it and it wouldn't hold a bullet.  Not sure if it's due to poor alloy or improper heat treatment.

I've read all the advice on tossing A USA, (Armscor) but I have loaded it to Fed Lite levels with coated lead bullets with no problems.

Hunting loads = max loads and that only gets loaded in Starline brass.

While I have loaded some PPU to the upper limits without issues and shot from my S&W1006 :-[, it may not be the wisest thing to do as said before, PPU is not the best quality stuff.  ???  Geeman had a serious case blowout using PPU...

A-USA seems to be a little better...but  :-\

When I get some time, I'm going to sort them by headstamp.  This is a bummer since we bought 2,000 pcs and most is A USA and PPU.

Live and learn...I'm hoping to get a few hundred of good brass.

DM1906

In my experience.....

I agree with most of the above. A USA and PPU is substandard. I get a LOT of them in .380 and 9mm, all tossed.

Double Tap is good (although not all is Starline). McNett is NOT Starline, and is NOT good brass. I had serious KB! issues with it, at starting load charges. All of that headstamp should have been recalled (according to Double Tap). Double Tap recalled and replaced the lot I bought (with "Double Tap", at their expense, return and shipping). My issue was covered extensively, with pics, at GlockTalk.

ELD = El Dorado (PMC). As good as PMC, which is good.

DT = Defense Technologies, of old. Canadian subsidiary of Defense Industries, IIRC. Haven't seen it in years, but I don't remember anything bad about it.

This is why I generally only buy new starline.  Used brass is just too expensive by comparison, at least in my area.

And at $162 / 1K shipping included you really can't go wrong. Buy it direct from Starline.

Any experience with HPR?  I have a decent amount of HPR in the pile.

I also found one piece of brass "ProGrade?"

Yep. 223, 9, 40 and 45 are almost totally range pickups. 10mm and revolver brass are rare range pickups, so 100% Starline if buying brass.

munchie3409

Got a confirmation from HPR...they have Starline produce their brass, so

HPR = Starline = GTG
