Ideas on Nice, Light, Hunting Trigger for G20

First of all let me say that, while I'm no expert on shooting guns and hunting, I do have many years of experience with both, especially with handguns and hunting. So, with that being said, I ask that comments not be made recommending that I just "learn to shoot what I have first" or "the stock trigger should be good enough" and the like.

I'm looking for an aftermarket trigger kit or trigger parts that will give me a very nice, light, crisp, clean trigger pull on my Glock Gen 3, G20 that is to be used to hunt deer/coyote. I have already swapped out the stock barrel with a LWD 6.02" barrel, added a Burris FF3 reflex sight, and I also swapped out the trigger connector with a polished Glock OEM minus connector. While the trigger connector swap did improve the weight and feel, it still has a very disturbing creep right before the break. I'm thinking maybe a competition type of trigger may be my best bet. I would like to keep the price in the $60-$100 range.

Been looking at www.occustomtriggers.com and Phantom Triggers from http://glockparts.com but I'm open to other suggestions as well.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Keep it simple.

Wrong direction with the connector. Lesser weight connectors make a LONGER (creeping) pull. Go with a heavier (+) connector, and drop the trigger (return) spring weight. This will shorten the pull, and equal or lessen the weight (depending on the combination). Fine polish the trigger bar (all contact points), firing pin safety button flat, and the connector angle cam. Then sharpen and square (!) the striker and trigger bar-break. This will do wonders to smooth, crisp and shorten the trigger break, as well as shorten the reset. All for a LOT less than $60. Very often, the polish/sharpen job will make lightening the trigger spring unnecessary. Try polishing and the heavier connector first. You may not want a lighter trigger after that.

Try to avoid modifying the striker or striker spring, if possible. It can help, but is a reliability trade-off. Lighter spring or lighter striker (drilled or titanium), may limit your rounds to Federal Match primers for dependable reliability. In any case, if any part of the striker assy is modified, be SURE to replace the spring retainer with the marine model. This lessens the channel friction by about 50%, which helps maximize striker velocity.

I haven't tried the ones you mentioned but I have installed several Zevtech Fulcrum trigger kits for a G20, G40 and a couple other 9mm and 45 acp Glocks for a friend at work.

The Zevtech is adjustable for pretravel and overtravel. Because of the way the Glock firing pin safety is designed, if you take out all the pretravel, you'll likely bypass it. This will leave you with the trigger safety and crucifix sear type safety remaining. (I don't have mine adjusted this way)

The Zevtech comes adjusted for both pre and overtravel and you can safely tweak it a little more without jeopardizing the firing pin safety but you will still have some pretravel. (There are Zevtech YouTube videos showing how to adjust it) Nothing like what you have with the original glock trigger but there is some pretravel.

I just measured the distance the trigger moves before firing and it's 1/4 of an inch from start to stop. I have a trigger pull gauge and it just measured 4.5 pounds.

The trigger pull weight can be lightened more by installing one of the lighter striker springs the Zevtech came with but I didn't install it because I read about some folks experiencing light strikes. I live in Alaska and the last thing I need when encountering a sow with cubs on a salmon stream is a light strike.

Zevtech has several different trigger kits and the one I installed included the trigger and spring assembly, firing pin safety and spring and two lighter striker springs. (They also sell a skeletonized firing pin) I installed everything but the lighter striker spring as previously mentioned. I first installed this kit on my G20 and when I sold my G20 to a co-worker, I removed the Zevtech kit and installed it in my G40. So, they will definitely work in a G20.

Overall, I'm happy with the Zevtech as it significantly improved the trigger pull. I tried a Ghost 3.5 pound connector and polishing everything before trying the Zevtech and there's no comparison. About a month ago, I was bored one weekend and I reinstalled my original Glock trigger and dry fired it a few times. Then I reinstalled the Zevtech trigger and dry fired it a few times. I won't be going back to the original Glock trigger anytime soon.  :D

Thanks so much for the tips, guys.

sep, how much $ can I get by with on the Zev components like you mention? And exactly what should I be ordering to be similar to what you have?

DM1906, I'm not sure if I'm ready or comfortable with sharpening the striker and trigger bar break just yet, but it sounds like you're on to something there.

Here's a link for the black on black Gen3 G20 trigger kit minus the skeletonized firing pin. There are other colors to choose from if you'd like. You'll notice the warning this kit is for competition use only. I have had zero light strikes with a variety of handloaded and factory ammo but again, I did not install one of the lighter firing pin striker springs the kit comes with. I left the original striker spring in place. Cost for the kit is $185.00.

If you don't want to spend the money on the Zevtech, you could always try polishing the trigger bar. There are YouTube videos explaining how to do it and if you mess it up, a new Glock OEM trigger bar is pretty inexpensive. Best of luck and please let us know how things turn out.

Just a note, in regards to messing with hammer/striker springs and firing pin weights. Load up (or have a friend do it) and shoot a box or two of target rounds with rifle primers. This will ensure a safety margin with firing pin dynamic strength. A light strike or failure to fire on any rifle primer is into the no-go margin for a combat/carry pistol.

How'd that work out? I have ghost edge or ghost rocket trigger connectors in my glocks. I'd reccomend them. Was thinking I might swap one out to their new pro version in my glock 40 just to be even better. I really like the ones I have used anyway.

UPDATE: I received my trigger from www.occustomtriggers.com with silver trigger safety and I opted for the OC "Enhanced" mod as well. Also, I locally purchased a Ghost Edge connector, a lighter safety plunger spring and a heavier, 6 lb. trigger spring too. The trigger from OC cost me $60.00 before shipping and the Ghost package was around $25.00.

After installing the trigger group and Ghost package, which was very simple to do, and adjusting the pre-travel via the trigger screw, I have arrived with a very smooth, crisp trigger pull which scales at exactly 3.5 pounds. I am very pleased with my purchases and end result.
