My Glock 20 with Sig Sauer AMMO Chronograph Test Results are in!

As promised, here are the results of my Sig Sauer 180 gr. ammo testing done today. I was very pleased with the results of the ammo in general and especially with the 180 gr. JHP out of my 6.02" LWD barrel which yielded an average of 1342.6 fps for an astonishing 720.33 ft/lbs of energy! Great whitetail medicine!

Please note that the column on the left shows data with the LWD extended 6.02" barrel and the column on the right shows data using the stock 4.60" barrel. Also, the top two sections show data using the FMJ ammo and the bottom two sections show data using the JHP ammo. Both bullet variations are factory advertised at 1250 FPS but I found that the FMJ ammo is somewhat slower than the JHP ammo.

Guns are weird! Your data is kind of reverse from mine and a bunch more spread between the FMJ and HP's. It would be interesting to see what the pull-down on those would show.

Yes, weird. I was quite surprised at the difference between the FMJ and the JHP myself. All in all I was pleased to see the consistency with the velocities from shot to shot with the relatively low extreme spread, save for the comparatively low 1296 fps output from a single round through the 6.02" LWD barrel mixed among the other four 1300+ fps rounds.

Here is what I got with the SIG 180 FMJ from 3 different guns factory barrels; Keep in mind these were pulled down and then put back together for testing...

Glock 29  velocity 1178 fps      case expansion 0.4315"
Glock 20  velocity 1250 fps      case expansion 0.4315"
Glock 20  velocity 1260 fps      case expansion 0.4315"
S&W1006 velocity 1276 fps      case expansion 0.4265"
S&W1006 velocity 1286 fps      case expansion 0.4270"

And, I might also add that I got this 1 3/16" group at 40 yds immediately following the ammo testing while resetting the reflex sight after remounting with Loctite from an earlier time. This was with the JHP ammo fired through the LWD extended barrel.

For a JHP hunting load I'ld still go with Underwood for maximum performance aside from handloading your own.

For plinking there are lower cost options online (~20 cents per round cheaper) but for anyone who wants to purchase at their LGS then the SIG ammo is tough to beat if you can find it in your area.

At 720 ft/lbs of muzzle energy from my extended barrel and readily available in my area, I'll opt for the Sig JHP ammo for deer hunting. Although I would like to try the Underwood ammo through my chrono with the extended barrel to see the difference.

I use Freedom Munitions ammo for practice and for GSSF competition with everything in my G20 converted back to stock.

Here are the prices I pay at my LGS for the Sig ammo:

180 gr. FMJ, 50 rounds...............$25.99
180 gr. JHP, 20 rounds...............$19.99

That's pretty competitive pricing for store bought ammo in 10mm.

Thanks for the results. I am getting right around 2 and a half inches at fifty yards with my G40 10mm shooting both underwood 200gr xtp and hard cast.
