2000 FPS???

Uh... No.  I wouldn't believe it, if I saw it (from a distance, for sure).  The .357 Mag at the old 40K pressure wouldn't do it.  Not close.  Nope.  Ain't gonna happen.  The .357 Max will, with an 8-3/8" barrel.  The .357 Max in a 10" TC barrel moves out at 2125 FPS.  5" .357 Mag/auto?  Nope.  Maybe 1600, under ideal conditions, disregarding the 35K pressure max.

OK, I see why you ask now.  I really find it hard to believe you can get that out of a 5" barrel but I will find out and get back if I can find that ammuntition some where.

Tha pistol comes with two springs, a 22# for 357's and a 10# for 38's.  To be honest all I have shot so far is two boxes of Federal 158 gr JHP as a friend of mine who is a supplier to Coonan in Blaine Mn told me that is what all the pistols are test fired with.

I guess I will start looking for ammo on line today and get back with what I find out.

BEEMER!

Well I have 3 boxes of the Remington shipping today.  Fairly cheap ammo.  Remington specs say 1450 fps out of a 4" barrel and I would bet I do not get that.

You will. I get that out of my 4" revolver and your 5" Semi should get a boost.

BEEMER!

I know that the barrel/cyllinder gap plays into this, but a 5" auto loader in 357 equates to something under 4" in relation to a revolver.  I will take along my 6" 686 to compare.

There was an article in Handloader a couple of years ago where they tested the gap phenomenon rather thoroughly.  They used a couple of model 1917 revolvers and had a barrel made for a 1911 that would mimic the chamber + 5.5" barrel of the revolver.

One of the revolvers had an excessive gap as I recall and it was consistently behind, but the other guns all traded back and forth for best speeds.

The conclusion was, all things being equal, a properly gapped revolver doesn't lose anything outside the standard deviation for a good load.

And, yeah, 2000 fps from a 357 5" or 6" in a 125 grain bullet is measuring gas/ejecta, not the bullet.
