I was going through withdrawals waiting for my RIA to come back from the mother ship.  I got a call from a local shop that the Glock 40 I put on back order in March finally showed up!  The best part is, it was free!  (I hit on a $5 table at a gun bash and took the credit towards the Glock.  I had enough credit left over to put towards a Burris Fast Fire 3 for it.)

Had it at the range yesterday and put about 300 rounds through it.

Impressions.  This gun is top heavy but not so bad with a loaded mag installed.  I spent an afternoon playing mix n match with the trigger parts and springs out of a bag O parts a buddy gave me.  I ended up with a 3.2 lb trigger with a fairly clean break but I still don't like the way the trigger pinches the bottom of my finger when shooting it.  I decided to leave the factory dual spring recoil assembly and I must say, I'm really impressed with it.

Surprisingly, with one exception, every load that shot well out of my Rock shot even better out of the Glock. (probably due to the FF3) ammo used so far:
8.2 gr BE-86 / 180 gr. XTP & Xtreme JHP
12.4 gr. #9 / 200 gr XTP & Xtreme FP
8.0 gr. Longshot / 200 gr Xtreme FP
6.8 gr. WSF / 180 gr Black Cherry PC lead

I didn't get to chrono anything as this was the yearly family get together at the range, but I must say, that #9 load with the 200 gr Hornady XTP seems to be "the" 10mm load.  It chronoed 1094f.p.s. out of the Rock and probably picks up another 50 f.p.s. out of the G40s 6" barrel.
The second most accurate load was the light loaded Black Cherry powder coated lead, loaded with WSF.  This bullet shot patterns out of the Rock (probably due to the crappy bore) and chronoed 1100 f.p.s.
The worst load was with Longshot.  I seem to be able to get top velocities with Longshot but nowhere near the accuracy as #9, Power Pistol & BE-86.  I haven't loaded it to max yet, so maybe I just haven't found it's sweet spot.

Now it's time to clean it and prep all that empty brass for reloading.

Cheers.

What parts did you change out to get the trigger down to almost 3 pounds? I installed a 3.5 pound connector, installed a competition (6 pound) trigger spring and polished up the internals on my G40 but it ain't that light. Only thing I didn't do was change the FP spring.

It can just depend on the particular gun, i can swap connectors and springs around in all 3 of mine and the newest one always has the best trigger. Probably around 4lbs.
I have two cheap lone wolf connectors and one ghost ultimate.. i cannot tell any real difference between them.

Zev V4 race connector rated at 3.5lbs  in my G20 + a $0.25 trigger job brought my pull down to 5lbs 6 oz with the factory return spring and factory striker spring.  3 lbs would certainly require a lighter striker spring and possibly a heavier return spring.

Almost all of them. 8)

The trigger is a D&K adjustable, heavier trigger return spring, (6 lb?) 4.5 lb striker spring, polished everything that moves and I have no idea whose connector I ended up using. (there were 8 of them in the bag to chose from)
Of all the parts I changed out, the connector had the least effect on trigger weight and the biggest effect on trigger feel.  Some connectors made the trigger feel like I was squeezing a sponge.  What some call a "rolling break".  I picked the one that felt closest to the crisp "glass rod" break I'm accustomed to on all my other guns.  Defiantly no glass rod but better than stock.

I understand Zev makes a good adjustable trigger kit but their wasn't one in the bag O parts to try out.

Hope this helps.

Got out to the range today and burnt up some gunpowder for my own version of aroma therapy.  Discovered, depending on the powder, the extra inch of barrel gives me anywhere from an extra 50 f.p.s. - 9 f.p.s.  That's right 9 f.p.s. (WSF)

Not surprising, BE-86, Power Pistol, and Longshot averaged +30f.p.s. with #9 averaging +50 f.p.s. out of the 6" Glock.

Even tried my hand at a 50 yard group with the 200 gr #9 load.

5 shots.  One called flyer.  (still trying to catch on to the trigger)
The other four went into a 2.25" group.  Velocity was 1120 f.p.s.

Great Shooting! You partially credit the M.O.S.?
I am looking to get the LWD long slide for my G20C.  Do you have any input about Slide mounted optics
versus a regular optic mounted on a  wrap around rail? The 40 MOS looks great, but I already have the
20 and the 6.6" LWD barrel!  Great Groups!

With my old eyes, a dot sight defiantly helps with accuracy.  When I was in my late thirty's, I switched to fiber optic front sights so I could see them.  Today, I can barely keep them in focus. :'(

With frame mounted optics, you loose a small percentage of accuracy potential due to the slide to frame fit.
Slide mounted optics take more of a beating due to the shock of recoil and having to withstand the back and forth motion on the slide.  In USPSA open division, the early ones from 10 years ago (J-point, Doctor optic, etc) rarely lasted more than 5K rounds of Major class loads.  Today, it's getting better. (and cheaper)

On a hunting / range gun I prefer the dot.  On a defensive gun, still prefer the rugged old open post & notch.
