Ok, so I have a GLOCK model 40 10mm and am shooting some underwood ammo which is hotter than some of what you find off the shelf. I spoke with them about some of their bullets and they suggested I install a stainless guide rod and a heavier spring. Does anyone have experience with a stainless guide rod in their GLOCK and if so how do you like it and where did you order it from. Thanks.

Hey...Not to hijack your thread, but could you weigh your glock 40 complete with 1 magazine, then weight the slide assembly, then just the slide and then just the barrel, and post the results?

To your original question, I don't think I have seen any stainless guide rods for the Glock 40 yet.

The G-20 like the other new Gen 4 guns have a larger hole in the slide where the recoil rod purchases and protrudes that the older gen 3 and earlier...There is an adapter to utilize the Wolff recoil rods for the Gen4 guns, I think that the G-40 uses the same recoil rod at the G-20 gen4 guns...

With my G-20SF I use a Wolff non-captive recoil rod and 22lb spring, it has shown to apply more pressure at lock up and meets its 22lb  rating just just before the slide locks open.  Also measured the 24lb spring.

Glock 20Sf Factory spring test
It takes 5lb 3oz to start the slide to move from the locked position
Full retraction at 18lb 0oz at lock open

Glock 20SF spring test Wolff Gun Springs 22lb RSA installed
It takes 6lb 4oz to start the slide to move from the locked position
Full retraction at 22lb 9oz at lock open

22-Slightly over a pound difference 1lb 1oz to start the slide to move from the locked position
24-Slightly over a pound difference 2lb 3oz to start the slide to move from the locked position
22-Slightly over a 2 pound difference 2lb 9oz at lock open
24-Slightly over a 6 pound difference 6lb 1oz at lock open

Ok but don't pay for polished. Because you can't see it on a 40 MOS.

I will @sqlbullett, my paw-in-law has the scales on his reloading bench. @The Shadow, so if I purchase one I need an adapter?  Thanks, I appreciate the replies.

Polishing the guide rod isn't for aesthetics (unless that's what you want). The polished guide rod reduces friction between it an the spring, which reduces action resistance and noise. It can increase slide velocity to a noticeable degree. It can also cure (or create) feed issues.

I don't know if its stainless, but I got my steel non captive guide rod and #20 recoil spring from Wolff in a kit.

Also included is a striker spring, which I didn't install because my Glock 20 had very few rounds thru it, so the stock one is like new.

#20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 recoil springs are availiable.

I run the Wolff stainless  steel guide  rod  and a 22lr spring  from Wolff. Gen 3 20..  That's  been  at least over 5 yrs now.  Non nuke rounds all stock.

I use the stainless guide rods form Glockmeister andGlocksotre in my G20's. You shouldn't need a heavier RSA in a G40 though. That heavy slide will soak up all the recoil.

I'm running a stainless RSA in my G40 which I bought for my Gen 4 G20 at Glockstore.com. On the front of the package it says stainless steel rod guide for Gen 4 Glocks T0960-C for Glock 20/20SF/21/21SF. On the back of the package it says:

2x the weight of the factory plastic
Reduces recoil and muzzle flip
won't break or bend
shoots more accurately

I know it weighs more but I can't speak to the rest of their claims. All I know is my G40 runs fine with everything I've put through it...everything from factory and handloaded 180s to 200 grain WFNGC bullets from both Doubletap and Beartooth I handloaded. I have no idea if the spring weight is the same as the stock spring weight or not but it works just fine

My Gen4 G20 is back to stock to stay.  My steel guide rods w/ single springs just never felt like they were an improvement over the dual factory setup.  A 22# felt like the slide slammed harder under recoil than the original.  I replace it when it seems like a good idea and I've never had an issue.  Most of the ammo I've ran through it were heavy to extremely heavy.  If its not broken...
