Convince me

I've owned or own all kinds of 10mm's. Colt Delta Elite. S&W 1006 & 1076. Multiple Witness pistols. Wyoming Arms Parker. S&W 610.

But the one I've never contemplated was Glock. I guess my biggest issue has been that I've always had handguns with a hammer and safety. The idea of striker fired with no active safety mechanism made me nervous. Then I moved to Florida. It's so hot and humid that I couldn't wear coats or jackets, so my big hand cannon 10mm's have stayed in the safe for the last year and a half. Even my .357 revolvers don't conceal well enough under a T-shirt. So I've been carrying .380 Ruger LCP or a Taurus TCP. Like a Glock, no active safety. But I feel undergunned. I want to carry a 10mm.

So, I have the money in the bank. I'm highly considering a Glock 29 Gen 4.

Convince me.

I have bought and sold many guns, friends say i have severe firearm adhd.. my glock 20 will probably be buried with me. I love that chunky block.
Mines stock except for some very minor tweaking and truglo night sights. Oh, and some talon rubberized grip tape. Liked it so much i bought a little brother for it, a 23 with the same mods.

I bought the G30 sf when I got my CCL. I reload and have Owned an early G21 since the early Ninties.
So the G30 made sense.  I recently sold my old G21 and replaced it with a Gen4 G41.  I stay with the 45 caliber Glocks due to their  superior accuracy.

I'm also a 1911 fan and bought a custom Dan Wesson Silverback in 10mm.
Wow.  What an awesome round.  Next I bought a G20 upper for the G41 frame and then I bought a Storm Lake 10mm conversion barrel for my 30sf.

Bottom line is my Glock 30sf with a 10mm barrel is now in my EDC rotation along with a 1911 Les Baer Commanche and a Ruger LCR.

My advice is to buy a Gen 4 G30 then buy a 10mm conversion barrel and have the best of both worlds.
Why. Cause you can't convert a 29 to 45acp without buying a complete upper assembly.
But if you choose to go with a G29 you will be both well armed and happy man.

What would you guys say is a good price? They're going for about $550-$575 on Gunbroker, then you have to pay shipping and FFL fee. So looking at over $600 there. Local gun store has one for $621.54 NIB out the door.

I think mine was stickered at 700 (lightly used, 3 months old) but it had the tru glos on it and had a .40 conversion barrel. I traded a rifle i had 300 in plus i think $75 for it. I sold the other barrel for 100 a few weeks later.

I think I'll jump on it. I have the money. Better to get it now I suppose.

Glock pistols are ugly.
Glock pistols are cheap plastic.
Glock pistols have no "bling" quality to them.
Glock pistols have oversize, sloppy chambers.
Glock pistols have fat grips, not friendly with small hands.
Glock pistols have no externally switched safety.

Bulldogs are ugly. (except when they're puppies)
Glock pistols are cheap. (compared to a similarly reliable 1911 at 2-4x the price)
Glock pistols are plain, ergonomic, with minimal snag-points.
Glock pistols will chamber almost any correct caliber ammo, in almost any condition.
Glock pistols have high capacity magazines inside the fat grips, and small hands can actually fire them, accurately and reliably. My wife has tiny (tiny!) hands and hates shooting them, but she can, and does. Her CZ-83 is huge to her, but she loves it.
Glock pistols have no externally switched safeties that may fail, be forgotten (during extreme stress), or be hindered by obstruction or interference.

I hate Glock pistols, really. Every last one of the several I have. If/when the SHTF, I'll have at least one within immediate reach.

Versatility. You can't beat Glock pistols. With a single initial caliber platform, you can (safely and reliably) chamber and shoot multiple calibers, either by simply loading another caliber (such as .40SW in any 10mm), or with inexpensive drop-in barrels (no gunsmith required), and appropriate magazines in some cases.  Finding a drop-in (not so inexpensive) barrel for a 1911 that actually drops-in, is like shooting craps, so to speak (some do, but it's the exception, not the rule).

Did I say they were ugly? Well, they are. So much so, that if I were involved in a SD situation and it was taken as evidence, I wouldn't miss it like I would the fancy "others". If I never see it again, I won't be out much. I CCW Glock pistols in complete stock form, with nothing invested but trigger time.

Well I bought it. Paid online and I'll pick it up tomorrow or Tuesday.

I went through some of the Glock 29 threads and it seems people really like them.

Glocks are like no frills tools.... not necessarily pretty, but work all the time.

Patriot, Congrats and welcome to the Plastic Fantastic Tupperware world of Glock.

You will want to add the Pearce +0 base pad which gives a place for the pinky finger and more control.  The G-20 15 round mags will also work in the G-29.

Here is what mine looks like with the 15 round G-20 and Grip sleeve.

Mine gets the nod for the holster quite often.  LIke you I prefer guns with "doo-dads"; safeties, hammers, etc.  But the Glock is a solid platform that conceals easily, is lightweight for its capacity and power, and is relatively inexpensive for a serviceable gun.

I got my Glock 29 via the local classifieds for $400.  Came with two 10-rd mags and 1 fifteen round.  The 10-rd mags both had +2 extensions, as well as the original base plates.  But that was several years ago.

You will be well served by your new 29. It conceals fairly easily. Not like an LCP or anything. Lost a little weight lately and it goes IWB quite easily now.
