On the fence about purchasing a Glock 40, I have a 20 that works fine and does everything I need, but dealer called me up and said they had one for me (they know what I like)!  Any reports on 40 versus 20 for those that have both?  I imagine everyone on this forum will say buy, but just looking for advantages of the 40 over the 20...  Thanks!

I have (had) both. I sold my G20 to a co-worker a few months ago who wanted it. I like the G40 better because of the longer sight radius and I think it handles recoil a little better than the G20. My full house 200 grain WFNGC handloads don't feel quite as sharp with the G40,  although recoil is a subjective thing for people. I found my chest holster and leather hip holster which fit my G20 also fits my G40 so I'm good to go for holster carry either way.

The Dawson Precision adjustable rear sight, fiber optic front sight, 6 inch KKM barrel, Gen 4 stainless steel RSA and Zev Tech Fulcrum trigger all of which I used in my G20 works in my G40 too.

The only reason I could see myself buying a G20 would be if I wanted a shorter barrel for some reason which I don't. My G40 is strictly for hunting and range use as I have other pistols for concealed carry.

I managed to wrap my paws around the G-40 at a local shop, it did feel pretty good.  The lines were nice and the machine work for the optics with the plate for factory sights had a good fit.  The dealer said that he had sold a few already, but no one carries ammo locally for 10mm.  ???

So you'd expect that if sales of these G40s continue to take off at the current pace (my LGS just did sell its 5th one), store-front dealers would see a reason to start stocking some form of 10mm ammo to feed them,  ... right?
The 10mm AUTO ...
When you're finally serious about stopping power.

I finally handled one the other day, i think i am just going to stick with my 20 for now. Will be ordering a longer threaded barrel soon though.

Out of a g20,kimber eclipse and my g40 I like to shoot the g40 the best. I carry my kimber every waking moment and love it. But after only a few weeks and about 300 handloads down the 40 i can't wait for rifle season to get here. The gun shoots great out to 50 does seem to have a different feel for recoil. I'm very happy with mine.

Jrod, can you post the weight of both the G20 slide, G20 barrel and the G40 slide and G40 barrel?  Asking since you have both.

Thanks for the reviews guys. I am considering purchasing one. A local shop offered me one for $669. What did you guys pay if you don't mind me asking?

I paid $568.50 under the Blue Label Program and am grateful Glock offers such a program.

Condition 1

I have both the G20 which is heavily customized and the G40 which is currently bone stock.
I prefer the G20 over the G40. I dislike the G40's MOS system. I thought I would like it but
it rides the MRD too high to co-witness and I'd rather go with an Aimpoint T1 but can't because the
MOS system doesn't allow it.
Might buy a new slide from Lone Wolf if they can mill a picatinny rail onto it.
Lots of bullseye shooters use tube red dots and after using a Trijicon RMR on my G20,
I think I'd prefer an Aimpoint on the back.
Also if you want to shoot lead, the stock G40 barrel has to go, mine keyholes with lead. That's
not unexpected but it's another $165 to KKM.
Longer sight radius is good if your eyes are good, mine are not any longer...

Gen4G20

I had the G20 and sold it after I purchased the G40. I put a Trijicon RM07 on top of it and love the set up. Right now I am shooting my best group with Winchester silvertips at 25 yards. 3/4 inch 3 shot groups of a bench. Just ordered some Underwood ammo and will see how it does, got it for hunting. So far very pleased. I will be adding Dawson Precision fiber optic sights to co-witness the rmr.

What do you guys think of the heinie straight 8 sights? I always hear about them being very precise tritium sights. I'd like the most accurate night sights I could get for this. Any recommendations?

I have them on three 1911's. They are good sights. I feel the straight 8 is a faster target acquisition, but not necessarily more precise of aim that a 3 dot.

Thanks for the input t4terrific.
