Probably not.

Based on the read the person was not armed, so having any gun probably would not have made a difference.

Having a different mindset would have, at which point a 10mm would have helped.

If he had a Glock 20 and some 220 grain hardcasts we'd still have another RN.

True you need the mindset to go along with the weapon.

It sure wouldn't have hurt.

I haven't been to Yellostone in 40-some years. Can a civilian even carry in the park? Regardless, if he did, and shot/killed the bear in self defense, he would still be maulled and eaten alive. Just not by the bear.

Good point, DM. He would be eaten alive by the tree huggers for sure.

I am pretty sure you can carry now in Yellowstone:

We'll never know for certain however, the old adage: "better to have a Glock 20 loaded with 15+1, 220gr hardcast and not need it than to need it and not have it" comes to mind...

When an animal possessing those senses, power, speed, ferocity, has opportunity and sets their sites squarely on you; the slightest glimmer of a fighting chance is likely to be all anyone's going to get.

Hiking alone in Grizzly area without bear spray or sidearm...
Hiker and bear pay ultimate price...

Interesting side note; this article puts the bear's weight at 259lbs.  Which if accurate is obviously more than enough to take down full grown man, yet very much on the small side for mature Griz..

Bear that size would be well inside the 10mm performance envelope (IMO)...
