If I use my Glock 29 for EDC , do I need to keep everything Totally stock ?

The_Shadow

I carry mine with the Wolff two piece guide rod and the 21 lbs spring set, other than that it is stock!

Shadow , Thank you .   Will aftermarket parts cause any problems in your defense , if you are involved  a SD shooting ?

  Parts like Trigger connector , guide rod , 20 + #  recoil spring , after market Barrel , LWD , KKM , ect. ?

Same as shadow, gotta love the 29.

Stock barrel, unless you have it reamed (bored out) to factory diameter. Lone Wolf (for example) is tight which is good in several aspects but too tight and you WILL have feeding problems. I know this from experience on 17's, 19's, 20's and 29's.

I have a KKM Barrel , because the stock barrel has an unsupported chamber , which allows the brass to swell too much .  I reload , so I don't need bulging brass , with a short re loadable life span .  My carry gun will be the one  I will be shooting the most , so I will be shooting a lot of reloads .

I have read several articles from Massad Ayoob where he recommends not modifying your EDC gun in any way as forensics will go through it with a fine tooth comb...  One mans opinion, but he does have a lot of court experience.  I have changed out the RSA on mine to better handle the full strength loads.

I have a Ghost connector in mine, night sights, extended slide release. I'm really not too worried. I would worry more about if the potential shooting is justified or not.

Thank you for your input , but why would aftermarket barrel makers design a barrel that would have feed problems .  This is the first time I am hearing of this .
If anyone else has experienced feed problems with LWD , KKM , or any other aftermarket barrel please post the facts in this thread .

TIA

It's not the the barrels are designed to have feed problems but that the barrels are tighter than the stock barrel .  The "looseness" of the stock barrel was designed to allow any ammo to feed more dependable and increase reliability.

The tighter aftermarket barrels help only re-loaders keep expansion of the case lower and / or some that prefer for lead bullets.

I know why Glock , makes their chamber larger ,  but I have not read of anyone having feed problems with aftermarket barrels .

I have a 29 with stock barrel and a 20 with KKM barrel - I have had one or two not feed properly on the KKM, 100% my fault with long OAL or not removing enough of the expansion when taper crimping, but it does happen a few time out of several thousand rounds...  The 29 stock barrel has never given me any issues on my reloads.

Do you reload the ones that you shoot in the stock barrel ? Do they give you any problem when re sizing ?

Yes, I do.  The below loads clocked 1298 fps out of the G20, KKM barrel, and 24 lbs RSA on a CE Chrony at 10 ft.

I tend to pass them all through a Redding G-RX die - I do not think it is needed on either, just my OCD...  I can tell a difference when running through the die, 29s take a tad move effort, KKMs really do not take any.

These were with Accurate max load on their website for #9 and 180 grain Hornady HAPs (Hornady says use XTP data) of 13.5 grains.  I know that Hornady #9 has higher load data, but these were rather stout.  The 29s are measuring around 0.432 - 0.433 (majority measured were 0.4325), the ones in the 20 w/KKM are measuring 0.428 on pretty much all of them.  This was new Starline brass that had already had two other max loads on them with BE-86 and Longshot - so 3rd loading.
