How many defensive rounds you trying to store for the coming collapse?

I have a pretty decent supply in several calibers and a lot in most of the popular calibers. Enough that I'm content and not frightened if another scare happens. Is it enough, without knowing what will happen, who knows. I do know it probably won't go down in value if nothing happens. It could feed my family if the need arises. It could also sit on the shelves wasting space and money. Hopefully my life insurance is a waste as well. I figure as long as my preparing doesn't interfere with life and finances, it makes me feel a little more secure. I think when it takes over your thinking and finances, you've got a problem.

I am thinking if I get get about 500 true defensive rounds plus my range ammo that seems sufficient.

Any thoughts by more experienced fighters?

I just pray I will never need to use all of mine for defensive purposes, I'd much rather use them for hunting or target play.
However I am prepared either way!

I'm happy for your contentment and would not try to talk you out of it. Not trying to read anything into your comment that isn't there but, there are a lot of us who store up things just in case without being afraid of the dark as well. We simply look at it as possible insurance.  We don't buy in hopes of needing it, just the opposite. It also a good hedge against any future ammo scare that might drive up pricing or cause scarcity.

I do keep plenty of ammo on hand for times when availability drops off.  I have about six months supply for my regular shooting needs.  This is north of 10,000 in a combination of loaded rounds and components.  Some of those are hollow points.

Every range trip I run at least 50 rounds of defense ammo at the end of the session.  Even in busy times when there is only one range trip per year this means 600 rds is a year supply.

Just realized I have a lot of ammo.

A relatively small amount is "HP". But a LOT of it can be defined as defensive. I mean who actually would want to be hit with 180gr 10mm FN out of an 11" barrel cooking along at ~1300 FPS? Or 6.8SPC 110gr?

Only the Lord knows the future, but I am expecting/predicting and economic crisis/collapse - not an asteroid or such.  I have dual majors from business school - Economics and Marketing.  Which means only that I have two majors - don't profess to be an expert.  But I closely follow the economy every since taking my first course about 38 years ago.  Right now, I personally think there MAY only be two options; 1) someone convince Americans we need a slow, long term economic fix to our over-spending, cancerous and near demonic printing of money which has all but made the U.S dollar worth as much as Monopoly money, or 2) hit-the-wall.  Which to me seems all but inevitable.  The question is WHEN?

We are absolutely on borrowed time now and have been for at least the last 20 years+.  Ass-clown Obama has tremendously accelerated it to the point where the ice is so thin (metaphor) that with each day I hear the ice "crack" more than the day before and many people are starting to get their feet wet from the ice being so thin.  I personally think this time we will exceed any trauma/damage seen during the 1929 Great Depression, and it will make the 2008/2009 recession (which by the way we are still in) look like choir practice.  JUST IMAGINE YOUR CASH BEING, "NO GOOD?"

We could fix this, but no politician since Jack Kennedy has the balls to do the right thing - fix it - because it would be political suicide.  We simply can't sustain all these entitlement programs and short-sided government-driven economic programs that stifle natural growth and business.

Sorry - this is what's keeping me up at night.  And if no one thinks this will happen, dust off your history books - we are near a carbon copy of the U.S. in 1929 and Germany in the 1920" and 30's.

I guess I need a LOT more defensive ammo.  Right now, Underwood has good inventories.

Fine and dandy if you want to worry about something that may or may not happen. I choose not to. I could just be a little more happy in my life, and won't send my blood pressure rising. That said, I have a whole shed full of reloads, but not because I am worried about the zombie apocalypse. Because I am worried that Hillary may be our next president, and cause even worse reloading supply shortages than Obozo.

Not much, I have a couple boxes of XTP's for various handgun calibers and a few hundred 30 caliber softpoints none of which are even loaded yet. I shoot mostly lead in handguns and my rifle ammo is loaded when needed. I'm not big on prepping, I'm more worried about panic buying events leaving me high and dry so I have a decent supply of components and powder but few loaded rounds.
