Accurate #9

This is one of my favorite powders for 10mm if you don't count economy. Meters great, excellent velocity and in my guns very accurate.  If only it was a bit more economical.

I haven't seen A9 in the wild for probably 2 years or more. I am pretty good, overall, on pistol powder but A9 is running low for me. I'd like to get some more. It is my favorite heavy-duty 10mm powder. I like just about everything about it (case fill, clean-burning, great velocities, solid groups, fantastic metering, lowish flash), EXCEPT it is the least economical powder that you'll drop into a 10mm case. When considering that powder is the least expensive element to pistol loads, that demerit isn't that big of a deal.

I finally got a chance to try out the powder today, and I got to say I think I am in LOVE!  Damn, book values and incredible velocity / accuracy.  Not to mention it is the cleanest burning powder I think I have ever used, new brass and the inside was still clean and shiny!  Now I just have to find a bunch more since there are a lot less drops per pound than Longshot, BE-86, & 800X...

Glad it is working out for you. I love how clean it is too. It leaves some goldish sandy flecks in the case, but otherwise the brass is very clean, as is my gun. Best danged accuracy period from my G20 is a 200 gr XTP over about 13 gr of A9. That runs right at 1200 fps as measured at 65F.

You're right about economy. A pound disappears pretty quickly.

Accurate Arms #9 has undergone several transformations over the years.  It used to be only a very fine spherical micro bead  powder.  However it has been blended in the past and over the recent years and now has even more flatten ball flakes in the mix.  I have seen pictures that have shown many different variations...See below

It contained powders like;
No 9 Blend (IMI No7 20%, WC 820 80% - 118/92)
No 9 Blend (WC 820 90%, WC 350 10% - 106/94)

How does the AA#9 meter and does anyone use AA#7 for 10mm?

All of the Accurate Arms powders flow and weigh just fine, like weighing sugar...

AA#7 is very good for 10mm cartridge too

I've just started reloading, but a year ago I picked up a couple of pounds of AA#7 in anticipation of buying a progressive press and reloading .357 for a start, but never bought the press as I didn't think 2 lbs was enough to spend $500 + on a press and I put reloading on the back burner till I recently started reloading .308.  I just used some of my AA#7 to break in my powder measure cause I didn't want to unecessarilary cut the tube powder of the IRM 4895 I am using and it flowed nicely.  The Lyman Manual lists both AA#7 and AA#9 for 10mm, but not always for the same weight bullet.  Wonder why that is?  I just got a single stage press, but depending on how things go and my learning curve, I may still buy that progressive press for loading for handguns. .357 and 10mm, probably in that order.

General rule of thumb...Slower powders like heavier bullets.  You will find this to be pretty true across the board.

Thank you.  I am as new to reloading as anyone can be.  Total of 30 rounds of .308 loaded with a Lee Loader (Whack-a-mole) and the first 20 rounds on my new Lee single stage press just today.  I chose IMR 4895 from discussions of powder for .308 in forums and confirming with my Lyman Manual.  I'm not going to vary from the manual or experiment.  There is so much to learn, but with todays availability of powder, one may not always get what they want.  Unique to be precise for handgun.  Powder availability is the only reason I have not started hand loading for handguns, but now that I have a press, all I would need is some dies, bullets and primers and I could get started with the single stage press for handguns.  Slow, but a good learning tool as was the Lee Loader.

BTW, I load 308Win (I use RCBS FL Small Base dies), 30'06 , 30-30 many of the pistol calibers as well.
