Has anyone loaded Hi tek coated bullets in Tanfoglio Witness Hunter which has a polygonal barrel & lead bullets are not recommended ? I'm considering loading 180 gr coated bullets with 8.5 grs. Longshot, WLP primer & COL of 1.260.

I use coated in my witness limited. Polygonal cone barrel. No issue that I can see.

I have fired tens of thousands of lead bullets in EAA barrels.  Leading issues associated with Glock barrels is not due, IMHO, to the type of rifling, but due to the fact that they are large for caliber.  By Glock 29 barrel slugs .401", and a healthy .401" at that.

Lead bullets MUST be .001" over actual, not nominal groove diameter. And they should be soft enough that at the pressure they are being used there is a small amount of elastic deformation of the base.  Most guys who have issues with lead in a Glock barrel are shooting commercial cast bullets that are far to hard to have any elastic deformation in target pistol loads, and are sized .001" over nominal groove diameter, which appears to be small for Glock actual groove diameter.

I have had issues with leading in EAA barrels when using hard bullets under a light load of Blue Dot and applying a strong taper crimp.  I did this when I was new to lead bullets.  I observed that similar velocity loads using Unique did not lead.  I surmised with more experience that my leading issues were due to pressure too low with the light charge of a slow powder for my uber hard bullets, and the fact that the strong taper crimp was swaging the bullets down to .3995".  Once I learned better technique in crimping, stopped quenching my bullets from the mold and loaded up to a full charge of Blue Dot my issues went away.

Your coated bullets will work just fine in your witness.
