Are you saying you reshape the back strap area where the web of the hand fits?  Is this to allow more safety surface to be acted on by the web of the hand.

Or are you saying you need to open up the area where the grip safety slides into the frame opening?

Yes.  The line you drew is the new arc of the frame after reshaping.  This photo has the old grip safety installed to illustrate the difference in the frame.  The delta beween the arc made by the grip safety and the arc in red you added is the material removed.

Here is the same frame but with the new grip safety blended.

So, the high-ride allows you to grip the gun 3/8" or more higher up and forward than the standard frame/grip safety.

OK now that I have that straight  understand the process better.  At first I thought the channel was being widened to accept the grip safety & bever tang.  Remember I'm not the 1911 gun guy, althought I try to grasp the understanding of the whole process, function and things being done!  Thanks for providing some education on this grip safety stuff.  I knew the made the safety with the bump to allow a positive function and the bever tang to prevent hammer bite.

Yeah, that is an original safety and an un-cut frame.  And if you think fitting a barrel gives you the willies, just try fitting an Ed Brown grip safety.  You have to remove a BUNCH of metal from the frame.  Very nerve racking, especially the first time.

Hey, I see ....... I can only screw up a barrel, with that safety you have the option of screwing up the whole frame. :o
Anyway, I'm still skeered of fitting the barrel.  ;D

Not at all.

An improperly fit barrel can definitely screw up the frame when you fire the gun.  You would have to work at it to fit the barrel that poorly though.

I'll shoot it next week.... Thanks.

Can't wait to hear about it.
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

Oops, I forgot. Since the pistol  was 'new' to me.........took it apart to the bare frame and slide to clean everything. After reassembly I took it to the range and fired one box of Atlanta Arms 180 FMJ, a middlin 10mm load. Function was flawless.....I've owned at least one Colt 1911 for most of my adult life so it felt very familiar. Next time I'll take a few loads of 9.0 gr Longshot, 180 XTPs I have and try them. Should run about 1200 fps out of the 5 inch barrel.

Obviously, I like the pistol, especially the wrap around grip, but I'm prejudiced towards the 1911 platform. ;)
