Spent some time today at the ranch and tested some loads with a Glock 20 with KKM barrel and stock barrel (24lbs RSA) and S&W 1006.  First interesting thing I noticed is that the 1006 with the same loads did not produce higher velocities than the shorter Glock and KKM barrels for me?  Other thing was that the KKM barrel (standard length drop in one) produce higher velocities than the stock barrel, but  hand higher extreme spread and standard deviations?  Anyway on to the numbers...

Glock 20 Gen4 KKM barrel, Hornady 180 grain HAP, Federal 150 match primers, BE-86 (I had previously worked loads with 7.6, 7.8, & 8.0 grains and wanted a little more):
BE-86 8.2 grains - high 1219, low 1201, average 1209, ES 18, SD 7

800X 8.5 grains - high 1227, low 1175, average 1197, ES 52, SD 17
800X 8.7 grains - high 1230, low 1191, average 1210, ES 39, SD 15
800X 8.9 grains - high 1253, low 1201, average 1224, ES 52, SD 19

Comparing guns with BE-86 8.2 grains (same bullets and primers):
1006        - high 1199, low 1183, average 1192, ES 16, SD 6
G20 KKM  - high 1219, low 1201, average 1209, ES 18, SD 7
G20 stock - high 1175, low 1163, average 1169, ES 12, SD 5

Charges were measured out on a RCBS ChargeMaster (every 5th on verified on beam scale), OAL = 1.250 +/- .001 (on inexpensive digital calipers from HomeDepot).  Chronograph is a CE ProChrony Digital utilizing the USB connect to computer.

I do not know if the 800X is the best high velocity powder, I have had higher velocities with lower ES & SD from LongShot in other test and stayed below book max loads.  According to IMR 8.7 grains is the max load for 800X on the website, of coarse my Hornady 9th edition manual pushes it well beyond that (10.1 grains)...

Target to not hit the chronograph!  Smith is lower right, Glock is upper right - unfortunately I was aiming for the bullseye off bags at 15 yards!!!

Just the view!

In the post of this link you can study what Underwood was using in the past.

Thanks Shadow, you've pointed that thread out to me in another thread I started, I was just a little hesitant to go over the powder manufacturer's recommendations...  I have lots of Longshot, lots of BE-86, and lots of 800X, so I'm sure I'll get there down the road!!!  And since the Longshot and BE-86 meter so much better than 800X (and the Dillon XL 650 came in Thursday) I think I'll be cranking out a few rounds with them first now that I have some good load values...
