Cool. I wish I had $1900 to spend.

Dan Wessons radiate quality.  You will find Wilson owners who paid $3k to $5k for their Wilson 1911s, who also own Dan Wessons, saying their Dan Wessons are every bit as good if not better.

I have a 2012 Black Valor that was and is my dream .45 ACP 1911.  There's nothing else I want in a 1911!  Just a few more copies of that gun, I suppose.

Or a Razorback/Silverback now that I'm into 10mm!

I have the Dan Wesson Razorback. If this one shoots like mine.......

Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Dan Wesson today is kinda like Kimber was when they first came on the scene.  Kimber gave you most of the common "custom 1911" features that you paid lots for in an affordable, well made "factory" 1911.

Dan Wesson does pretty much the same today.

Were Kimbers ever at the high quality threshold of DW 1911s?

gandog56

I don't know. They seemed to charge enough to think they were.

My Dan Wesson Razorback, which is what shot the target posted above, was way cheaper than a Kimber.

Not saying there ever were.

I am saying when Kimber hit the market, they were pretty comparable to the entry level offerings of Wilson, Baer Clark and other custom smiths at the time, but at half the price.

Kimber has gone downhill in quality IMHO, and the custom shops have gone WAY up in quality.

Dan Wesson offers a "production custom" gun at the $1200-$1300 price point that competes pretty well feature and quality wise with lots of $2000-$2500 guns.  Which is exactly what Kimber did when they hit the market 25 years ago.

There seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence that Kimber puts wrong-sized firing pin stops on many of their 1911s, as in, such a sloppy fit that they appear to be for some other gun.  Then there's the plastic mainspring housings, always red flag for me to never buy a Kimber.  Not to mention all the other complaints I see/hear from Kimber owners.  I think DW and Kimber 1911s are on opposite ends of the quality spectrum.

I am considering one of these Silverbacks as a retirement present to myself.

I'm trying to figure out the $400-500 difference between the razorback and silverback. Two colors and adjustable sights....what am I missing???

The Silverback has the adjustable night sights, checkered front strap (Razorback is smooth), and it is supposed to be given the same attention to fitting as the Valor.  That being said, I bought a Razorback yesterday!   ;D

I bought my Razorback right after CZ acquired Dan Wesson.

Love the look of the Silverback for the most part, not sure about the trigger, but all in all DW makes fantastic 1911's.  I was in a gun shop maybe 4 years ago and they had one of the CBOB 10mm's brand new, two tone that I almost bought, but unfortunately didn't probably because not long before I had picked up a .45 CBOB.  Oh well!
