I really like my Stock II however there is no way I would carry it. It shoots great but definitely has some weight to it. Of course I don't usually carry a 1911 either as long term carry for me gets uncomfortable with it too so YMMV. You also run into available holster issues as well. I am definitely not a Glock guy, but for carry, that may be your answer.

For me I find the following statements to be true.

If I want to carry a comfortable gun, the G29 gets the nod.

I I want to carry the gun that gives me the most comfort, the Para P16-40/10mm comes out.

usually I opt for comfort over comfortable.

Yeah, I'm the exact opposite. Glocks feel real awkward to me. Nothing feels as good as a 1911.

Of course I have a rather small short fingered hand. Any double stack is too uncomfortable.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

I am talking about carry...not shooting.

I can't think of a 10mm that is more comfortable to have in a holster on my hip all day than the G29.  Light, small, barely know it is there.

If you have small hands, the stock II is definitely out without also buying some thinner, aluminum grips. Like I stated, I love mine but don't think it'll be a fit for you in this case.

Is the ultra hc out yet? I stumbled across a ria commander length on gb. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=478292958

just bought that exact gun at a local gun shop for 595 + tax. Feels great in the hand solid extremely nice gun but it is back at Armscor for jamming issues. maybe I should have bought a Glock Or eaa match.

I have found all my 10mm 1911's to be sensitive to COAL. Anything over 1.250" and I encounter issues except with a few very specific ogive profiles.

Then the 185 grain Precision Bullets RFN must be good, because I size them to 1.260", and my three different manufacturers 1911 10mm pistol eat them all no problem.

I don't have a G29 yet but my fondness for the G23 indicates I'd probably take to a G29 just fine.  We all know these are plastic-framed guns but I have yet to find an objective reason to reject guns on this basis (as much as I am fond of steel, leather and wood).  The plastic doesn't look pretty or expensive but it is very tough and functional.  And light!

Like I said, my only complaint about a Glock is just the grips are too wide for my small hand, and the grip angle just feels wrong to me. I really need to get a hold of one of them new SIG P220 10mm to see how I like them.

How about a Dan Wesson Silverback 10mm 1911?

I have the Dan Wesson Razorback myself. As a matter of fact, 3 of my 1911's are 10mm. See if you can figure out which three here are the 10's.

No doubt the razorback is one of the nicest 10mm 1911's out there.  But it is also roughly double the OP's original budget based on the guns he was looking at.

It is customary to push gun seekers out of their stated budget range, or to say "you need both", etc. ;D
