I am running into inconsistencies in the books for Power Pistol.  Lyman 49th says max load on 180 grain is 8.0 grains for 1209 fps, Hornady 9th says 8.4 grains for 1150 fps, Alliant website doesn't show a load for the 180 (only 155 grain).  I have seen suggestions for higher loads on the website, just looking for advice on what others are using and happy with...  Not looking for nuclear loads, just good accurate 10mm loads.  I would like to test in a G20, G29, and 1006.

Older Alliant data archived at handloads.org shows that Alliant used to publish 8.7 grains of power pistol in 180 gr JHP for 1240 fps @34,900 PSI.  That was at 1.250" COAL and using Fed. 150 primers.

These velocities are all over the place:

8.0 for 1209
8.4 for 1150
8.7 for 1240

Such erratic data points may be why Alliant dropped the data for the 180 grain load.  It does seem to indicate that loads up to 1200 fps with 180 in power pistol are probably fine pressure wise.

Maybe I'll just keep the Power Pistol for other cartridges that Alliant still has data points on (9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP).  I have enough tested loads with LongShot, BE-86, & 800X to keep me going for a long time on the 10mm!!!

I managed to get right at 1200 fps (1180-1200 fps) using 8.0grains under the Hornady 200 XTP from the 5" BBL.  Got much less from the 3.78" G-29 (1080 - 1130 fps).

8.0 grains is my standard 180 load with PP. Functions in all my 10mm handguns just fine.

I use 7.5, 8.0 and 8.5 grain loads of PP with 180 grain bullets. Great accuracy. Some of the pull down factory loads go much higher.
Late to 10mm but loving it!
